24-Year-Old Man Killed After Crashing Into Cemetery Wall in Norwalk

On Saturday, November 29, 2025 at 2:12 AM, Norwalk Patrol Officers were dispatched to the intersection of East Avenue and Van Zant Street on a report of a motor vehicle accident.

Norwalk Police, Norwalk Fire Department and Norwalk Hospital EMS were dispatched to the scene. First responders located a 24-year-old man, later identified as Anthony Martinez, inside a vehicle that had collided with the stone wall of the East Norwalk Historical Cemetery.

Emergency personnel immediately began providing medical care. Mr. Martinez sustained critical injuries and was transported by ambulance to Norwalk Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Mr. Martinez was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The Norwalk Police Crash Reconstruction Unit responded along with the Identification Unit to process the scene and assume the investigation. Based on preliminary findings, Mr. Martinez was operating his vehicle eastbound on Van Zant Street when he continued through the intersection at East Avenue striking the stone wall.

Norwalk Man Arrested After Ramming Police Cruiser, Stolen Gun and Narcotics Recovered

A man wanted on an active arrest warrant is facing multiple firearm and drug charges following a violent confrontation with police in Norwalk. On November 23, 2025, at approximately 6:48 p.m., Norwalk Patrol Officers located and attempted to arrest Yahya Sonko in connection with a prior police pursuit that occurred on October 24.

Officers responded to the area of Quaker Road and observed Sonko leaving in a vehicle. As police attempted to block his exit, Sonko reversed his vehicle into a marked patrol cruiser, exited the car, and fled on foot. Officers pursued him and successfully apprehended him in the parking lot of 330 Connecticut Avenue.

During a search of the vehicle, officers recovered a stolen Glock 19 handgun from beneath the driver’s seat. The firearm was equipped with a 33-round extended magazine loaded with 28 rounds of 9mm ammunition. Police also seized narcotics from inside the vehicle, including 13 oxycodone pills (30mg), 59 oxycodone pills (10mg), and one MDMA pill.

Sonko now faces a long list of charges including stealing a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, multiple narcotics charges, possession with intent to sell, illegal possession of a high-capacity magazine, interfering with police, evading responsibility, and unsafe backing. Additional charges stem from the earlier October incident, including engaging police in pursuit and several motor vehicle violations. He is being held on a combined $500,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on December 8, 2025.

Norwalk Man Arrested After Officers Find Pepper-Ball Firearm

Norwalk Police arrested Mathew Clark Jr., 41, after officers on selective enforcement duty approached two individuals loitering outside a storefront on Woodward Avenue displaying “No Loitering Police Enforced” signs. During the interaction, officers discovered Clark was carrying a multi-colored Byrna HD firearm equipped with a loaded magazine of pepper-ball ammunition and a CO₂ cartridge.

Clark, a convicted felon, was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters, where he refused to be fingerprinted. He was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a dangerous weapon, failure to comply with fingerprint requirements, and carrying a pistol without a permit.

His bond was set at $200,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on December 3, 2025.

Juvenile Struck by Vehicle on Seaview Avenue

On November 20, 2025 at 3:46 PM, Norwalk Combined Dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting that a juvenile was struck by a vehicle on Seaview Avenue. Norwalk Police, the Norwalk Fire Department and Norwalk Hospital EMS were immediately dispatched. Patrol officers arrived in the area of 11 Seaview Avenue and located a six-year-old child on the sidewalk and adjacent grass area of the westbound lanes of Seaview Avenue. First responders began providing emergency medical care to the child, who suffered serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to Norwalk Hospital.

The Norwalk Police Crash Reconstruction Unit responded along with the Identification Unit to process the scene and assume the investigation. Based on the preliminary findings, the driver of the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Seaview Avenue when the child ran west across the roadway and was struck. The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Connecticut Avenue Crash

Norwalk Police have identified the pedestrian who was seriously injured after being struck on Connecticut Avenue around 5:50 p.m. Tuesday. Officials thanked all media partners who shared the image and the members of the public who called in with information—his identity was confirmed after a caller recognized him on a news platform.

As previously reported, officers located the man with serious injuries in the westbound lanes, and he was transported to Norwalk Hospital. Preliminary findings show he was crossing outside a marked crosswalk when he was struck, and the driver remained on scene. The Crash Reconstruction Unit and Identification Unit are continuing the investigation.

Stratford Man Charged in Residential Burglary Case

Stratford Police arrested Joseph Benway III, 38, in connection with a January 2, 2025 residential burglary where entry was forced through a broken glass panel on a garage door and approximately $2,000 in currency was reported stolen. Benway, who had previously worked at the home as a contractor, turned himself in on November 12 after detectives developed him as a suspect through multiple search warrants.

Benway was charged with Burglary 1st Degree, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree, and Larceny 3rd Degree. His court-set bond was $150,000, which he posted, and he is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on December 3.

Norwalk Sexual Assault Suspect Captured in Bridgeport Operation

The Norwalk Police Department began investigating a sexual assault on June 30, 2025, after a woman reported being assaulted at her residence. The case was quickly taken over by the Detective Bureau, and through the course of their investigation detectives determined that Dashon Robinson was responsible for the assault. Detectives applied for and received an arrest warrant from Stamford Superior Court.

On the morning of November 13, 2025, members of the U.S. Marshals Service Violent Fugitive Task Force, the Bridgeport Regional Task Force, the Norwalk Police Special Services Division, and the Norwalk Detective Bureau located Robinson at a residence in Bridgeport and took him into custody without incident. Robinson was transported to Norwalk Police Headquarters for processing.

During the arrest, a second man with Robinson—Aden Garrett—was found to be in illegal possession of a firearm. Garrett was arrested and transported to the Bridgeport Police Department, where he was charged with possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm without a permit, and illegal transfer of a firearm.

Robinson is charged with sexual assault in the fourth degree and was held on a $50,000 bond.
