On July 22, 2025, the Norwalk Police Department’s Special Victims Unit was notified by the Connecticut Department of Children and Families regarding a report of a juvenile who had been sexually assaulted.
Special Victims Unit Detective English assumed the investigation. As part of the investigation, multiple search warrants were applied for and granted by Stamford Superior Court. Detective English conducted interviews with victims and witnesses and reviewed evidence obtained through the court-authorized warrants.
The investigation revealed that Mikel Matias Reyes, who was 18 years old at the time, contacted juvenile victims through social media platforms and solicited nude photographs and videos. The investigation further determined that Reyes enticed a juvenile victim to engage in sexual acts in exchange for money.
Based on the findings of the investigation, Detective English applied for and was granted an arrest warrant by Stamford Superior Court. Reyes was taken into custody on the morning of January 29, 2026.

On April 18, 2024, The Norwalk Police Department’s Special Victims Unit was notified by the Putnam County (New York) Sheriff’s Office that their agency had recently arrested Francisco Javier Gomez for an attempted sexual assault of a 13-year-old. During Putnam County’s investigation, evidence obtained through court-authorized search warrants indicated that Gomez may have committed similar offenses within the City of Norwalk.
Norwalk Police Special Victims Unit Detective English assumed the investigation and worked closely with investigators from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, the Stamford Superior Court State’s Attorney’s Office, and federal partners from the United States Attorney’s Office and the Department of Homeland Security. Following an extensive, months-long investigation that included the execution of multiple search warrants, detectives developed probable cause to arrest Gomez for offenses involving four juvenile victims that occurred in Norwalk.
Gomez subsequently pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the New York investigation and has been incarcerated within the New York State correctional system. An agreement was reached between the State’s Attorney’s Offices in New York and Connecticut to allow Gomez to be transferred to Connecticut custody to complete his New York sentence while awaiting prosecution on the charges originating in Norwalk.
On January 27, 2026, detectives from the Norwalk Police Department Special Victims Unit traveled to Marcy, New York, where they took custody of Francisco Javier Gomez. Gomez was transported to Connecticut to be arraigned at Stamford Superior Court on January 28, 2026.

On January 15, 2026, at 1:12 PM, Norwalk Patrol Officers began investigating a report of a shots
fired inside of an apartment on East Wall Street.
Patrol officers spoke with the complainant, who reported that Christopher Bromfield had discharged
a firearm inside the apartment during the overnight hours. The investigation revealed that Bromfield
fired the weapon while the complainant and a one-year-old child were present inside the apartment,
in a separate bedroom.
Members of Norwalk Police Department Emergency Services Unit Tactical Response Team
responded to the apartment complex. Bromfield was located exiting the parking lot in his vehicle
and was taken into custody without incident. Officers recovered a .45 caliber semi-automatic
handgun from Bromfield’s possession, along with 37 rounds of ammunition located inside his
vehicle.
Norwalk Police Detectives subsequently applied for and were granted a search and seizure warrant
for the apartment by Stamford Superior Court. During the execution of the warrant, detectives
recovered and seized four magazines fully loaded with .223 caliber blank ammunition, a rifle, a
pellet rifle, and six boxes and an ammunition container containing various ammunition.
Bromfield was transported to Norwalk Police Headquarters, where he was processed.

Norwalk, CT — January 6, 2026 — Norwalk Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious package Tuesday morning on Westport Avenue, prompting a temporary perimeter and assistance from regional resources.
At approximately 9:21 a.m., Norwalk patrol officers were dispatched to 370 Westport Avenue after a caller reported a bright green package with red wires protruding from it outside the building. Upon arrival, officers secured the area and established a safety perimeter as a precaution.
The Stamford Police Department Bomb Squad was notified and responded to assist with the investigation. A Norwalk Police explosive detection K-9 and handler also conducted a precautionary sweep of the surrounding area.
Following the investigation, police determined the item was a battery pack and did not pose a threat. No additional suspicious items were found.
The Norwalk Police Department thanked the Stamford Police Department for its assistance, as well as local residents and motorists for their patience during the response. The Norwalk Police Detective Bureau continues to investigate the incident.
Police remind residents to remain alert and report suspicious activity immediately. Anyone who sees something concerning is urged to call 9-1-1 in an emergency. NORWALK, CT — A Norwalk man has been arrested following an investigation into fraudulent credit card use tied to purchases made at Home Depot locations in several states, according to police.
On March 7, 2025, a victim reported fraud involving a company credit card, telling police that between February 27 and February 28, 2025, unauthorized purchases totaling more than $2,000 were attempted. The victim identified William Ayles, a former contractor, as the suspected individual based on receipts, notes, and other documentation. Surveillance video from the transactions was obtained, and investigators later determined the actual financial loss totaled $1,201.30.
An arrest warrant was issued for Ayles in connection with the fraud investigation. On December 24, 2025, a bail enforcement agent took Ayles into custody and transported him to Westport Police Headquarters. He was charged with Larceny in the Third Degree, Criminal Attempt to Commit Larceny in the Third Degree, and Payment of Less Than $500 Using a Revoked or Stolen Credit Card. Bond for those charges was set at $100,000.
Police said computer checks revealed Ayles was also the subject of seven additional arrest warrants for Failure to Appear stemming from cases brought by multiple agencies. He was charged with four counts of Failure to Appear in the First Degree and three counts of Failure to Appear in the Second Degree, carrying an additional $140,000 in court-set bonds.
Ayles was unable to post bond and was transported to Stamford Superior Court for arraignment on December 24, 2025.

NORWALK, CT — The Norwalk Police Department Detective Bureau is actively investigating an attempted burglary that occurred on Felix Lane, according to police.
Detectives recovered surveillance footage showing three suspects involved in the incident. Police said the individuals were observed communicating with one another in Spanish during the attempted burglary.
In response, the Norwalk Police Department has increased patrols in the surrounding neighborhood and is asking residents to remain vigilant. Anyone who sees suspicious people, vehicles, or activity is urged to call 911 or the Norwalk Police Department’s non-emergency line at 203-854-3000.
