STRATFORD HOSTS INAUGURAL VETERANS DAY PARADE

STRATFORD- The Town of Stratford and the Marine Corps League Housatonic Detachment #1129 are pleased to announce the inaugural Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, November 11th.

The parade steps off at 10am from Stratford Town Hall, traveling south on Main Street. The parade will conclude at the annual Veterans Day ceremony at Academy Hill, which is hosted by Stratford’s VFW Post 9460.

“On Veterans Day we take time to honor and celebrate the sacrifices and contributions of all who served our country in the military and their families,” said Mayor Laura R. Hoydick, who will serve as Parade Marshal. “The Town is privileged to host this inaugural parade. Please join us as we salute our local heroes.”

Veterans from Stratford and neighboring communities will participate in the parade route. Community and civic organizations are also invited to participate, whether it be marching in the parade or cheering on the sidelines of the parade route. This Celebrate Stratford event is sponsored by Teamsters Local #1150 and Sikorsky Aircraft, a Lockheed Martin Company and Burns Construction.

Please note: Main Street will be closed from Barnum Avenue to Academy Hill from 9:30am to 11:30am. St. James Church is hosting its annual Christmas Fair on Saturday, November 11th. Folks attending Veterans Day activities should refrain from parking in the St. James parking lots and on Broad Street. Stratford Police Officers will allow participants of the St. James event to access Main Street, if necessary.

Shelton Police Arrest Two in Stolen Firearm Case

On 10/24/2023 the Shelton Police Department arrested 18-year-old Jaiden
Lanzi of Shelton and 19-year-old Jason Smith of Derby. Both Lanzi and Smith
were charged with being in possession of a stolen firearm and related charges.
The arrest stems from an incident that was reported to Shelton Police on
10/17/2023, where two firearms were stolen from a Shelton residence. During the
investigation, it was discovered that the firearms had transitioned through several
individuals.


Through interviews and follow-up investigation the Shelton Police applied for
and were granted search warrants to search residences and vehicles in Shelton,
Derby, and North Haven. During the execution of search warrants in Shelton and
North Haven officers located the two reported stolen firearms.
Lanzi was processed and charged with Theft of a Firearm, illegal transfer of a
stolen firearm, improper storage of a firearm, and Risk of Injury to a minor. Lanzi
was held on $100,000.00 bond and transported to Derby Superior Court on
10/25/2023.


Smith was processed and charged with Theft of a Firearm, illegal transfer of
a stolen firearm, and improper storage of a firearm. Smith was placed on a
$200,000.00 bond and transported to Derby Superior Court on 10/25/2023.
The investigation is ongoing with additional arrests expected in this
investigation.

Chemical Spill At Sacred Heart University

#Fairfield CT– At 8:03 PM Wednesday night, the Fairfield Regional dispatch center received a report about a chemical spill in a science lab on the campus of Sacred Heart University. Fairfield Fire Units swiftly responded, and Assistant Chief George Gomola assumed command upon their arrival. The SHU Department of Public Safety had already evacuated and secured the building as a precaution due to the unknown chemicals involved and the potential for reactions. The Fairfield County Hazardous Incident Response Team was summoned to assess and identify the spilled chemicals. Additionally, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection offered assistance. The Fairfield HazMat team entered and secured the scene, containing the spill to the original office, and fortunately, there were no reported student or staff exposures or injuries. University Facilities took over the scene, with a private cleanup contractor on the way. American Medical Response provided medical standby, and the Fairfield Police assisted in securing the incident area on campus.

Hit-and-Run Tragedy Claims Life of 24-Year-Old Cyclist

On the morning of October 24, 2023, at around 6:07 AM, the Bridgeport Emergency Operation Center received a distress call. The report stated that a motorized bike operator had been struck near the junction of Waterview Avenue and Crescent Avenue. Unfortunately, the vehicle responsible for the collision fled the scene without offering any assistance to the injured victim.

The 24-year-old victim was swiftly transported to Bridgeport Hospital with critical injuries. Regrettably, he later succumbed to his injuries.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of the victim, 24-year-old Jeffrey Omar Enamorado, on behalf of the Bridgeport Police Department.

The Bridgeport Police Department Traffic Division is currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the accident and identify the suspect vehicle.

Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident

On October 21, 2023, at 4:46 PM, multiple calls flooded Norwalk Combined Dispatch, urgently requesting assistance at the intersection of Grist Mill Road and the Route 7 connector due to a reported single motor vehicle accident. Tragically, this incident claimed the life of the vehicle’s sole occupant and operator.

Swiftly responding to the distress calls, the Norwalk Police, Norwalk Fire Department, and Norwalk Hospital Emergency Medical Service were dispatched to the accident site. Upon arrival, the responding officers discovered the vehicle situated in an embankment area off the roadway. Their immediate efforts were directed toward safely extricating the operator from the wreckage. Regrettably, the operator, identified as Joshua Chapman, 37, from Naugatuck, did not survive the accident, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene by Norwalk Hospital Emergency Medical Service personnel.

As authorities diligently investigate this tragic accident, they encourage anyone who possesses information relevant to the incident to come forward. SHU Accident Arrest- 10 Times Over Legal Limit Traveling 85mph

2023-10-25#Fairfield CT– On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, Fairfield Police Crash Reconstructionists make an arrest following the September 29, 2023 crash involving the serious injury of four Sacred Heart University (SHU) students and an Uber driver on Jefferson Street. Following an extensive investigation, it was determined by police crash investigators, that TYLER DELK (19) of South Orange, NJ, and Sacred Heart University student himself, was operating a 2018 Audi S5 Convertible at speeds exceeding 85mph on Jefferson Street. At one point, Delk lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a 2021 Toyota Corolla being operated by an Uber driver and occupied by four female SHU students.

At the time of the collision, Delk was operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol which was determined to be ten times the legal limit. In Connecticut, the limit for alcohol for a person under 21 years of age is .02%. Delk was arrested and charged at Saint Vincent’s Hospital with Driving Under the Influence, Reckless Driving, (5) Counts of Assault 2nd with a Motor Vehicle, and (5) Counts of Reckless Endangerment. He was released after posting a $250,000 court-set bond and will appear in court when he is medically cleared. The Fairfield Police wish to thank all of those who performed life-saving measures to those involved in this terrible crash on the scene and we wish a speedy recovery to everyone.
