Connecticut Commits $396,000 to Transform Century-Old Easton EMS Center
Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz announced today that the state, through the bond commission, is allocating $396,000 in state funds to support the much-needed renovation of the Eastern EMS Center. The renovation project, with a total estimated cost of $3.7 million, aims to address critical infrastructure issues and enhance public safety in the community.
Speaking at the Eastern EMS Center, Bysiewicz emphasized the importance of the project, stating that the funds will be used to replace aging septic systems, install watershed protection, expand parking facilities, and upgrade the overall infrastructure of the facility. The Lieutenant Governor highlighted the challenges faced by emergency personnel, stressing the need for separate quarters for sleeping, changing, and showering for men and women in law enforcement, EMTs, and firefighters.
Selectman Bindelglass shed light on the funding dynamics of the town, explaining that Easton relies heavily on property taxes as it lacks a commercial tax base. He expressed the town’s commitment to maintaining its current character while acknowledging the necessity of upgrading the over 100-year-old facility.
During the event, an EMT raised concerns about the lack of privacy between men and women within the current facility, highlighting the urgent need for renovations. The EMS Center, formerly a firehouse, has served the community for over a century and is now in dire need of modernization.
Senator Tony Hwang emphasized the project’s primary focus on public safety and the critical role infrastructure plays in saving lives. He stressed the urgency of efficient infrastructure design to ensure first responders can reach emergencies promptly, especially in a building that is a century old.
Chief Arnold, of the Easton Police Ems, expressed gratitude for the state funds, stating that the money will significantly improve living conditions and operational efficiency in the 98-year-old building. The funds will be utilized to recruit and retain volunteer EMTs, upgrade equipment, and streamline emergency response times, ultimately benefiting the Eastern and surrounding communities.
Senator Hwang concluded by acknowledging that the allocated funds are just the beginning of the financial commitment required for the project. As a member of the bonding subcommittee, he hinted at potential future requests to complete the renovation, emphasizing the state’s dedication to public safety in Easton.
The renovation of the Eastern EMS Center is anticipated to enhance emergency services, support the dedicated personnel, and ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
Bridgeport News: Update on Shots Fired on Main Street.
On January 28, 2024, at approximately 12:50 pm the Bridgeport Emergency Operations Center received reports of shots fired and a motor vehicle accident within the 1100 block of Main Street in downtown Bridgeport.
Officers arriving on scene located a 2-car motor vehicle accident with one of the striking vehicle occupants suffering from a gunshot wound to the buttocks. That victim, identified as a 27-year-old Milford man, was taken to an area hospital via AMR Ambulance for treatment. He is listed in stable condition.
A 29-year-old Naugatuck woman and 57-year-old Naugatuck women sustained injuries during the motor vehicle crash. Both were transported to an area hospital via AMR Ambulance and are listed in stable condition.
While Officers were securing the crime scene on Main Street, a 23-year-old Bridgeport man presented at an area hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. That victim is being treated in the intensive care unit. Preliminary information indicates the 23-year-old was shot during the same incident on Main Street.
A vehicle believed to be involved in this crime was identified and quickly located by Bridgeport Police within the 100 block of Wilcox Street in Bridgeport.
The Detective Bureau has responded and taken charge of the investigation. The crime scene, located within the 1100 block of Main Street, is being processed at this hour. Additional evidence is being collected within the 100 block of Wilcox Street.

Shots Fired On Route 110
2024-01-28@11:15pm–#Shelton CT– Police are looking for an older white compact vehicle wanted for a shot(s) fired on Route 110 near the parkways on the Stratford line. This was possibly related to a domestic situation in the car.
Arrest made in fatal hit and run accident
On 01/06/2024 at approximately 12:15 AM, the Shelton Police were dispatched to the area of Howe Ave and White St on a report of a pedestrian lying in the roadway. Responding officers located an unresponsive female, later identified as 64-year-old Stephanie Peterson. Peterson was transported to Bridgeport Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.
An investigation by Shelton Detectives and the Accident Reconstruction Team revealed that Peterson was stuck by a vehicle who evaded the scene. During the investigation the operator of the vehicle was identified as 19-year-old Ariela Treysler of Trumbull. An arrest warrant was later obtained for Treysler. On 01/25/2024 Treysler was arrested and charged with felony Evading Responsibly and released on a $50,000.00 bond. Treysler was given a Derby Superior court date of 02/16/2024.

Shooting Incident
On January 26, 2024 at 12:22 AM Norwalk Combined Dispatch received a 911 call regarding a person shot within a residence on Hillandale Manor. Patrol Division Officers arrived and located a victim. Officers provided medical aid to a male victim who had been shot in his abdomen. The victim was transported by ambulance to Norwalk Hospital. The Detective Bureau responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. This investigation is active at this time and detectives have determined that this is an isolated incident with no threat to the Norwalk Community.
