Naugatuck Man Arrested for Possession of Child Sex Abuse Material Following Online Sting

On May 15, 2025, Roger Pratt, age 36, of Naugatuck was arrested by warrant for Possession of Child Sex Abuse Material First Degree. Pratt was arraigned in Derby Superior Court and held on a court set bond of $75,000.00.

Roger Pratt’s arrest was the result of an investigation that began when he was accused of going online and attempting to meet an underage girl. A group of private citizens that uses social media to identify possible child predators engaged in conversations with Pratt and then confronted him in Ansonia. While the actions of the group to identify and expose child predators is commendable the Ansonia Police Department does not recommend private citizens confront someone they suspect, but rather reach out to the law enforcement agency where the suspect resides to report their suspicions.

All arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Arrest Made in Ansonia School Threat

This morning, 9/19/2024, at about 6:40 A.M., the Ansonia Police Department received a complaint about a threat to the Ansonia Public Schools posted on social media. The Ansonia Board of Education was notified and a decision was made to cancel school. Our Patrol Division and Detective Bureau were able to interview several potential witnesses. During the interview process a 13 year-old female juvenile confessed to making the post and she was arrested. The juvenile was referred to Juvenile Court for Threatening First Degree and Breach of Peace Second Degree.

Chief Williams commends the actions of the Ansonia Police Department’s Patrol Division and Detective Bureau for their quick response and coordinated effort to secure the schools and investigate the threat.

Working in conjunction with the Ansonia Board of Education and Superintendent Joseph DiBacco, we would like to release the following statement to all the parents and guardians.

Please speak to your children about how to communicate (i.e. email, social media) in an appropriate manner. Please know that all threats to our schools or students are taken very seriously and are investigated thoroughly.

We encourage parents to speak with your child about making the right choices and the potential consequences of their actions.

Tomorrow, Friday, September 20th, the Ansonia Public Schools will resume a regular schedule of classes. We appreciate your help as we work together to keep all of our students safe and help them make positive choices for themselves and our community.

Ansonia Homicide-Suicide: New Details Emerge

This morning at approximately 5:00 A.M. the Ansonia Police Department received a 911 call reporting a serious assault in a residence on Westfield Avenue. The first officers on scene found a female and male inside the residence, both suffering from gunshot wounds. The female was shot multiple times in the torso, she was transported to a local hospital for treatment and unfortunately succumbed to her injuries. The male was shot once in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. While we are still involved in an active investigation, all the information to this point indicates the male shot the female multiple times before shooting himself. It appears that the male forced entry into the home and confronted the female before shooting her then himself. There were two other people inside the residence, they were not involved in the incident and were unharmed.

The female has been identified as Miguelina Lebron, age 45, of Ansonia and the male has been identified as Yanis Tavarez, age 47, of Bridgeport. Lebron and Tavarez were divorced and the incident took place at Lebron’s residence.

The Ansonia Police Department would like to thank the Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crimes, Derby Police Department, Seymour Police Department, the Department of Children and Families Milford Office, and Yale Trauma Clinical Services for their assistance during this investigation.
