UPDATE: Fox61 has sent in this photo from the scene to us and said that the bus had students from Princeton University that were on their way to the Yale football game in New Haven. Four people including the bus driver were injured and transported to the hospital. 36 students were screened by EMS and said not to be injured and are being transported onto another bus. This is exit 43 northbound. Trucks and buses are prohibited from this exit due to the steep grade.
10:30am–#West Haven CT– Reports of a coach bus into a building exiting I-95 at exit 43 northbound. Reports of downed wires, extrication required and 31 injured. A mass casualty has been declared.
11:00am–#Ansonia CT– First responders are in the twenty block of Howard Avenue for an odor investigation which turned out to be a gas leak. There was an infant inside and they are evaluating the child at this time.
6:41pm–#Monroe CT– Today’s vehicle fire was at Lynn Terrace. It was thought the fire extended to the home but firefighters confirmed it was just confined to the car.
7:34pm–#Stratford CT–#Bridgeport CT– Bridgeport Police were called to Bridgeport Hospital for a man shot in the hand. The man said it happened in at his home in Stratford but he is being evasive with information. Stratford Police was also called to the scene.
#Milford CT–Join BMW of Bridgeport October 28th between 8:30 and 11:30 am, downtown Milford for Cars and Coffee With A Cause. BMW of Bridgeport will be making a donation with every coffee to the Norma Pfreim Breast Center at Bridgeport Hospital.
#Fairfield CT–State Sen. Tony Hwang (R-28) participated in a press conference Tuesday as AT&T makes a $10,000 donation to the Newtown Parent Connection.
“I’m ecstatic that AT&T has decided to give this generous grant to such a worthy local nonprofit,” said Sen. Hwang. “Dorrie Carolan and the Newtown Parent Connection are really on the front lines fighting the opiate epidemic in our state. I can’t think of a better recipient for these valuable funds. All the money will go to efficient use right here in the community.”
The Newtown Parent Connection is a local charity devoted to combating substance abuse through education. The organization was founded by Dorrie Carolan, a parent who lost her child to addiction. The organization works in conjunction with town agencies, the police department, the schools, and religious communities to enlighten our community in order to prevent the use of drugs and alcohol among our youth.
11:34pm–#Norwalk CT– If you live in Norwalk you probably heard every emergency vehicle on the road. There was a report that 3 teens were hit by a train on Glover Avenue. After the emergency crews arrived the found no one was hit. Police are investigating.
BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut – October 10, 2018 – St. Vincent’s Medical Center is offering free counseling to help people select the best Medicare plan to meet their needs for the coming year and help them save money. Everyone who currently has Medicare or who will turn 65 by January 31, 2019 is urged to sign up for this free, unbiased counseling at St. Vincent’s during Medicare’s Annual Open Enrollment Period, which runs from October 15 through December 7.
This service can help individuals make an informed choice, find plans that best meet their needs and save money. The service can also help with claims, billing and other Medicare issues.
With 13 years of experience, certified Medicare and government benefits counselor Betty Brandt will help individuals learn about their options regarding Medicare Part D Drug Plans and Medicare Advantage Plans. Every year these plans change so this service will help clarify choices. In addition, the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help for prescriptions will be discussed.
This one-on-one confidential counseling will be especially helpful to those new to Medicare or about to turn 65. Senior citizens, people with disabilities and family members are invited to talk by phone or meet with Betty Brandt by appointment in the privacy of the Banks Library, located on the third level of St. Vincent’s Medical Center.
Brandt is available to discuss Medicare benefits, supplemental insurance, prescription plans, Medicare savings program, statements, bills, claims, appeals, and Medicaid.
Brandt, who is a volunteer with St. Vincent’s Medical Center, holds a master’s degree in counseling from the University of Bridgeport, and holds Medicare and Government Benefits certification from CHOICES, a partnership between the CT State Department on Aging, the five Area Agencies on Aging, and the Center for Medicare Advocacy. She has been assisting people with Medicare issues for more than thirteen years.
This program, sponsored by St. Vincent’s Mission Services, is a community outreach effort to help seniors and people with disabilities obtain the medical benefits they need, and to make the best decisions about health insurance coverage.
