Norwalk Vape Shop Arrests

During the week of January 13, 2025, the Norwalk Police Department’s Special Services Division, in collaboration with the State of Connecticut Drug Control Division, conducted operations at three smoke shops in Norwalk as part of an ongoing investigation into unlicensed cannabis sales and the distribution of products containing THC levels exceeding legal limits. Authorities have also been addressing numerous complaints of vape and tobacco sales to minors, illegal marijuana sales, and the distribution of high-THC products, including edibles.

The investigation led to arrests at the following locations:

At Sono One Stop on 83 Washington Street, police arrested 45-year-old Mohamed Ali Zaiden of North Main Street, Norwalk, on January 15. Zaiden faces multiple charges, including illegal sale and manufacture of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. Authorities seized a variety of contraband, including pre-rolled cannabis products, THC flower pouches, THC vape products, THC resin, and edibles, as well as $691 in cash. Zaiden was held on a $6,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on January 29.

At R&R Smoke Shop and Convenience on 213 Main Street, officers arrested 23-year-old Abdellahi Ahmedou-Touh, also of Norwalk, on January 15. He was charged with possession and sale of more than 1 kilogram of cannabis, along with other related offenses. Police seized illegal THC vape products, edibles, vacuum seal bags, and packaging materials commonly used for cannabis products. The operation also uncovered marijuana flower products and $1,565 in cash. Ahmedou-Touh’s bond was set at $150,000, with a court date scheduled for January 29.

At VP Snack and Soda 108 Varieties and Deli on 108 Connecticut Avenue, 34-year-old Mohamed Salem Yaghla of the Bronx, New York, was arrested on January 14. Yaghla was charged with possession with intent to distribute more than 1 kilogram of cannabis and the illegal sale and manufacture of cannabis. Seized items included illegal THC edibles in branded packaging, along with $1,473 in cash. Yaghla was released on a $6,500 bond and is set to appear in court on January 28.

These investigations remain ongoing as authorities continue to crack down on illegal cannabis-related activities and unregulated vape product sales within the city.

Norwalk Police Bust Vape Shop Selling Illegal Cannabis Products

On Friday, December 20, 2024, the Norwalk Police Special Services Division executed a search and seizure warrant at the R & R Smoke & Convenience Store, located at 213 Main Avenue. The execution of this warrant is part of the ongoing investigation into smoke shops that sell cannabis without a cannabis license.

In Connecticut, it is illegal to sell products with a total THC concentration greater than 0.3% without a cannabis license. Officers received information that this location was selling pure marijuana and products that were well above the legal THC level.

The search warrant yielded several hundred products that were above the 0.3% THC threshold. In addition, pure marijuana, THC gummies, and Galaxy Gas nitrous oxide were also seized. The legal amount of THC allowed per gummy is 1mg, but the gummies seized exceeded this limit.

The marijuana being sold was packaged in a variety of misleadingly labeled packaging, which was also confiscated. In addition, $8,000 in U.S. currency was seized and will be applied for through the Asset Forfeiture Statutes.

Barricaded Subject Arrested After Lengthy Standoff in Norwalk

Norwalk, CT – A nearly six-hour standoff ended peacefully after police arrested a man accused of making threats and brandishing a weapon at a residence on Adams Avenue.

On December 23, 2024, at approximately 7:04 PM, Norwalk Police received a report of a disturbance at 32 Adams Avenue. According to authorities, 29-year-old Nabeel Osama Abdallah, who appeared intoxicated, made alarming statements about “completing a mission,” including threats to burn down the house and harm a resident. A witness also reported seeing a firearm in Abdallah’s room, and he allegedly stated that he was “not going down without a fight.”

Norwalk Police deployed Tactical Emergency Services Unit (ESU) officers and Crisis/Hostage Negotiators to the scene. Over five and a half hours, negotiators worked to de-escalate the situation, ultimately convincing Abdallah to surrender without incident.

Following his arrest, detectives secured a search warrant for the residence and recovered two facsimile firearms from Abdallah’s room. Abdallah was charged with disorderly conduct, threatening in the first degree involving a firearm, and interfering with an officer or resisting arrest. He was held on a $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on December 24, 2024.

No injuries were reported during the incident. The Norwalk Police Department commended the negotiators and tactical officers for ensuring a safe resolution.

Man Arrested in NY for Violent Home Invasion and Protective Order Violations in Norwalk

On December 16th, 2024, Christian Chavez-Sosa was arrested in Gloversville, NY, by the US Marshals. Norwalk Detectives transported him back to Norwalk Police Headquarters, where he was charged with Home Invasion, Strangulation in the Second Degree, three Violations of a Protective Order, and Burglary in the First Degree.

The home invasion incident occurred when Chavez-Sosa already had an existing protective order in place. On October 30th, he broke into the victim’s home, first destroying items and later re-entering the home only to terrorize the victim again. He strangled the victim as they laid in bed with their (victim’s) child, causing them to lose their breath. This only stopped when someone entered the room, causing an interruption. Chavez-Sosa then fled the residence.

On November 4th, he followed and harassed the same victim, making obscene gestures from his vehicle, once again violating the no-contact order of protection. The Marshals were able to locate him in NY, and the warrants for those crimes were served.

Chavez-Sosa was arrested on December 20th, 2024, and his bond was set at $300,000 for the home invasion incident and $50,000 for the third protective order violation. His court date is scheduled for December 23rd, 2024.

Norwalk Police Investigate Hate Incident Involving Prejudicial Flyers Found Near City Hall

The Norwalk Police Department is conducting an active investigation into a hate incident near Norwalk City Hall. Reports received by Combined Dispatch this morning described paper flyers scattered across several streets in the area. These flyers contained prejudicial messages targeting certain cultures and religions, written in various languages.

Norwalk Man with 4 Outstanding Narcotics Warrants Arrested After Foot Chase

On December 4, 2024, Special Services Division Officers arrested Derik McCoy, 35, of Norwalk, after observing him driving his 2006 Black BMW. McCoy, who had four outstanding narcotics warrants, fled on foot during a traffic stop but was apprehended a short distance away. During his arrest, officers discovered approximately 24.53 grams of crack cocaine, two scales, and $711 in cash. The four outstanding warrants, each with a $60,000 bond, stemmed from a long-term narcotics investigation. McCoy now faces additional charges, including possession and sale of narcotics, and his bond totals $390,000.

Robbery Arrest in Norwalk

On December 4, 2024, patrol officers responded to a report of an overnight robbery involving a $3,000 theft. The victim, who was acquainted with the suspect, 19-year-old Boston Leger, reported being assaulted at his home during a scuffle in which Leger allegedly stole the cash.

Following an investigation by the Detective Bureau, Leger was located and arrested at his residence in Norwalk. He faces charges of Robbery 1st Degree and Assault 3rd Degree. Leger is being held on a $30,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on December 15, 2024.
