A Norwalk man was arrested on gun and narcotics charges while driving around with an unsecured baby on his lap.
On March 31, 2024 at 11:49 AM a patrol officer observed a man driving around with a baby on his lap. The officer pulled the car over and did not see an infant car seat anywhere in the car. Officers noticed a strong smell of marijuana coming from the car. Officers searched the car which led to the discovery of .762 lbs. of marijuana and a Sig Sauer P365 loaded handgun.

On February 24, 2024, at 11:00 PM, Norwalk Police Combined Dispatch received a distress call reporting a robbery involving a pizza delivery driver on Meadow Street. The incident occurred after a phone order was placed at a local restaurant for delivery to a specified address on Meadow Street. Upon arriving at the designated location, the delivery driver encountered an individual identified as Thompson. Thompson, purportedly armed and using intimidation tactics, proceeded to rob the driver by rifling through his pockets and seizing his belongings. Following extensive investigative efforts by the Norwalk Police Detective Bureau, the suspect was identified as Harlie Thompson, prompting the issuance of a warrant for his arrest. On March 20, 2024, Harlie Thompson voluntarily surrendered to authorities at the police headquarters. Thompson, aged 29 of Norwalk, was subsequently arrested and charged with Robbery in the First Degree. He was held on a $20,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on April 5, 2024.
On January 26, 2024, Norwalk Combined Dispatch received a report of shots fired, with one victim sustaining a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Responding officers and EMS arrived at the East Norwalk residence to find the victim conscious and alert. The victim was promptly transported to Norwalk Hospital for treatment. Subsequently, detectives identified Raymond Dewitt of New Haven, CT, as the suspect and obtained a search warrant for his home, securing crucial evidence. An arrest warrant for Dewitt was subsequently obtained through Stamford Superior Court. On March 14, 2024, members of the United States Marshals Service Violent Fugitive Task Force, in collaboration with Norwalk Police Detectives, apprehended Dewitt in New Haven, CT. Dewitt, aged 25, was charged with Assault 1st, Criminal Use of a Weapon, and Carrying a Pistol Without a Permit. He is being held on a bond of $250,000.00 and is scheduled to appear in court on March 27, 2024.
On Wednesday, March 13, 2024, the Norwalk Police Special Services Division, in collaboration with the State of Connecticut Consumer Protection Drug Control Division, executed a search and seizure warrant at the Smoke House 1 vape shop, situated at 108 Connecticut Avenue.
This action was part of an ongoing investigation into local shops suspected of selling marijuana and hallucinogens without proper licensing. During the operation, investigators confiscated various items from the shop, including over four pounds of marijuana, several hundred products containing THC levels exceeding the legal limit, and approximately $1500 in US currency.
Naud Brandon Rodriguez, aged 26 of Norwalk, was arrested.
Rodriguez faces charges of possession with intent to sell an amount greater than 1 kilogram of cannabis, possession of an amount greater than 1 kilogram of cannabis, and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond is set at $75,000, with a court date scheduled for March 26, 2024.
CTDOT alerts customers of upcoming three-week closure of the East Norwalk Train Station to accommodate construction activities related to the WALK Bridge Replacement Project
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is alerting customers of the upcoming temporary closure of the East Norwalk train station from Monday, March 11 to Sunday, March 31, 2024. This closure is due to construction related activities for the WALK Bridge Replacement Project. CTDOT is replacing the 128-year-old swing bridge to strengthen commuter rail safety, enhance commuting reliability and increase operational efficiency along the New Haven Line and Northeast Corridor.
Upcoming work includes installing a new underdrain system under the existing East Norwalk station northern parking lot. The train station and parking lot must be closed to accommodate construction to ensure the safety of workers. No trains will serve East Norwalk Station during this period. Full regular train service remains available at the South Norwalk station at 29 Monroe Street, 1.5 miles west, and at the Westport station at 1 Railroad Place in Westport, 2.2 miles east.
The Norwalk Transit District is providing a free shuttle service, starting March 11, that will operate Monday-Friday during the three-week closure. The shuttle will travel between the East Norwalk and South Norwalk train stations six times in the morning and eight times in the late afternoon/evening during the three-week closure. Additionally, East Norwalk station parking permit holders can access the South Norwalk Train Station Garage at no additional cost during the three-week closure. Parking permits will not be honored at the Westport station.
“To ensure the safety of the workers, the East Norwalk train station will be temporarily closed for three weeks. We encourage customers to utilize the South Norwalk and Westport stations while construction activities are underway,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Bureau Chief of Public Transportation Benjamin Limmer. “We appreciate the continued patience as the WALK Bridge project continues moving forward.”

On February 4, 2024 at 8:19 AM, Norwalk Combined Dispatch received a 911 call reporting an operator of a motorcycle drove off the roadway and struck a telephone pole in the area of 238 West Cedar Street. Norwalk Police, Norwalk Fire Department and Norwalk Hospital Emergency Medical Service were immediately dispatched to the scene and began providing medical aid to the operator, Jared Taylor 41 of Norwalk. Taylor was transported to Norwalk Hospital by ambulance where he succumbed to his injuries.

On January 26, 2024 at 12:22 AM Norwalk Combined Dispatch received a 911 call regarding a person shot within a residence on Hillandale Manor. Patrol Division Officers arrived and located a victim. Officers provided medical aid to a male victim who had been shot in his abdomen. The victim was transported by ambulance to Norwalk Hospital. The Detective Bureau responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. This investigation is active at this time and detectives have determined that this is an isolated incident with no threat to the Norwalk Community.
