Norwalk News: Teacher Arrested

#Norwalk CT–On June 16, Mario York, a teacher at West Rocks Middle School, was arrested.An investigation was initiated on November 11, 2021, when a student at West RocksMiddle School reported that he was mistreated by Mr. Mario. Detective Kristina La Pakof the Norwalk Police Department Special Victims Unit assumed the case and worked together with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) to conduct a thorough investigation. The investigation revealed that on October 29, 2021, Mario grabbed the student by his shoulder, while he was sitting in a chair, and pulled him causing the student to fall to the ground. Mario then dragged the student across the room while the student clung to another desk. Part of the incident was captured on video by another student. After consultation with the Stamford Superior Court, an arrest warrant was submitted and signed, charging Mr. Mario with Risk of Injury 53-21 and RecklessEndangerment 2nd degree 53a-64. Mr. Mario turned himself in on 6/16/2022 and was released on a $5,000.00 bond.

Norwalk News: House Fire

2022-07-04@6:26pm–#Norwalk CT– #ctfire-Norwalk Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire on Esquire Road. Working smoke alarms awakened the occupants of the split-level single-family home who were able to safely exit the structure and call 911. Four Engine Companies, 2 Trucks, a Rescue, and a Command Car arrived on scene to discover a fire that started in a rear screened in porch had extended into the family’s living room. The fire was placed under control in 25 minutes after arrival. Fire Inspector Dave Burrows remained on scene for the origin and cause investigation.

Police UPDATE: On Sunday July 23, 2022, at approximately 10:33 p.m., Norwalk Combined Dispatch receiveda 9-1-1 call that a man was standing on the ledge on the outside of the fenced area of the East Avenue Bridge over I-95. Multiple officers rushed to the scene. The first officer on scenewas able to grab the man’s shirt through the fence while a second officer spoke to the man, trying to keep him calm. As more officers arrived to the scene, they began to gain access to the man over the tall fence by standing on police cruisers, lifting each other up, and even standing on each other’s shoulders. The man was successfully pulled to safety, despite struggling against officers.

Bridge Maintenance on I-95 Northbound in Norwalk

#Norwalk CT– #cttraffic–Drivers can expect right and center lane closures to take place on I-95 Northbound in Norwalk between Exit 14 (Fairfield Ave.) and Exit 16 (East Ave.). These closures will take place from Monday evening, June 20, until the morning of Thursday morning, June 23. The work schedule is 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Possible modifications or extensions of the work schedule may occur due to weather delays or other unexpected circumstances.

Strawberry Hill Avenue is closed between King Street and County Street due to a sewer line break. Motorists are asked to avoid the area due to increased Norwalk High School event traffic.
Anyone attending Middle School Graduations at Norwalk High School tonight are encouraged to park at Naramake Elementary School and walk to Norwalk High School
