3:05pm–#Bridgeport CT– In an unrelated incident a pedestrian has been hit by a car at Grant and Seaview Avenue.

Stratford News: Possible Electrical Fire

5:05pm–#Stratford CT– Firefighters are at 50 Crested Ridge Court for a possibility of an electrical fire.  No fire was discovered but there is an odor of electrical in the home.  Firefighters have requested the building and electrical inspector to the scene.

Stratford News: Voter Fraud Arrest

#Stratford CT–Troy Stevenson age 56 and Betty Chappell age 56 both from Bridgeport were arrested by warrant today for voter fraud. The pair was involved in alleged voter fraud by applying for absentee ballots during the November 2017 mayoral election in Stratford.
Chappell and Stevenson were charged with Forgery 2 nd Degree / 53a-139 and False Statement in Absentee Balloting / 9-359a. Chappell and Stevenson were released on a written PTA (promise to appear) and assigned a court date of 02/01/2018. The investigation was initiated when the Town Clerk’s Office noticed some discrepancies in absentee ballots signed out by the pair. At least two absentee ballots were determined to be forged and submitted by Stevenson and Chappell.

 

Suicide Awarness

#Stratford CT–On January 29th, Stratford organizations will join forces to launch Growing Up Now, a program to raise awareness about teen suicide and its connection to bullying and mental health. In this powerful presentation, parents will discuss emotional wellness and leave with strategies they can use to educate and empower their teens and families. The event, sponsored by Stratford Community Services, Health Department, Health Haven School-Based Health Center, PTSA’s, Public Schools, and CLASH/FLASH afterschool programs, will feature a presentation from Debbie Berman of She Mattered, who lost a daughter to suicide, followed by a discussion with school administrators and mental health professionals.

“We know youth have watched the popular Netflix show, 13 Reasons Why. The series tackles a number of complex issues including teen suicide that require a thoughtful conversation between parents and teens,” said Tammy Trojanowski, Community Services Administrator.” We want to reach parents prior to the release of the show’s sequel so that they feel prepared to talk to their children.”

The evening will begin at 6:15 p.m. in the Wooster Middle School Media Center and include dinner. The presentation is intended for parents of students in grades 6- 12, but all parents are invited to attend. To register visit www.SheMattered.eventbrite.com

Stratford News: Hand Grenade Found

Stratford News: A hand grenade was found today at 80 Garfield Avenue in Stratford. Officers responded to the waste management facility and found what appeared to be a hand grenade. The State Police Bomb Squad responded and disarmed the explosive and removed it from the area. The grenade appeared to be from World War 1 or 2 and was apparently discarded with garbage that ended up at the facility. Employees alerted officers to its presence. The scene was cleared without incident.

Stratford News: Pursuit Ends In Hit And Run In Bridgeport

9:11pm–#Stratford CT–#Bridgeport CT– A pursuit of a stolen vehicle in Stratford results in three cars hit in Bridgeport near the Bass Pro Shop.  One car was hit by Straford and Water Street and two more near Seaview Avenue.  The responsible vehicle got away.  Police are looking for a silver Accura.
