Stratford News: Burglary Arrest Put Suspects In A Pickle

On 09-04- 2017 Paul Thompson age 21 and Josue Rivera-Suarez age 26 both from Bridgeport were arrested in connection with a night time commercial burglary inStratford. The crime occurred at the Pickel Barrel Deli located at 1889 Main Street.  At approximately 0235hrs three men, Thompson, Rivers-Suarez and an unknown third male broke into the deli and stole a cash register valued at approximately $900 dollars
and $130 case. They then fled the area in a gray van. Responding officers reviewed surveillance footage and notified surrounding towns. The pair was taken into custody after a brief attempt to flee from Fairfield and Bridgeport Officers who located the vehicle. Each was charged with Burglary in the Third Degree, Larceny in the Fourth Degree and Possession of Burglary Tools. Both were held on $20,000 dollar bonds and are scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Court on 09-11- 2017

 

#Stratford Mobile Food Pantry Program is Extended into September

Stratford, Connecticut (August 31st, 2017) –Due to its success in July and August, the Connecticut Food Bank Mobile Pantry program will offer an additional distribution date for Stratford residents in September. The Mobile Pantry program addresses the need to decrease food insecurity by minimizing major barriers such as transportation and cost associated with purchasing fresh food.

 

On Tuesday, September 12th, the mobile food pantry will be located at Holy Name of Jesus Church (1950 Barnum Avenue) from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. to distribute a variety of free fresh and nutritious food to both individuals and families. The mobile pantry will include items such as dairy, vegetables, fruit, whole grains, and other perishable items.

 

“The Connecticut Food Bank and Holy Name of Jesus Church have been instrumental in making this program successful,” says Andrea Boissevain, the Director of Health for the Stratford Health Department, “we are very thankful for the opportunity to continue offering fresh food to our residents.”

Stratford News: KIDS DAY” AT THE STRATFORD FARMERS MARKET IS BACK!

STRATFORD, CT—The Town of Stratford will be hosting its second annual “Kids Day” at the Stratford Farmers Market on Monday, August 28th from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Paradise Green in Stratford, CT.

 

This fun-filled back-to-school event provides a variety of healthy activities perfect for the whole family. This event will  feature healthy cooking demonstrations from Cooking Matters,  gardening and nature activities, a chance to moon bounce,  yoga, ukulele lessons, health information, music from  Music Together, touch-a-truck with the Stratford Fire Department, story-time with the Stratford Library, giveaways, and much more!

 

Kid’s Day at the Stratford Farmers Market is part of a larger initiative to increase access to healthy, locally grown foods as a partner with Get Healthy CT Coalition. Get Healthy CT (GHCT), a coalition of businesses and community organizations, including Bridgeport Hospital, St. Vincent’s Medical Center, local health departments and social service agencies, collaborates to prevent and reduce obesity in the greater Bridgeport and New Haven regions.

Stratford News: Ex-Employee Beats/Runs Over Ex Boss

12:02pm–#Stratford CT– According to police radio, the owner of Paradise Landscape at 395 Chapel Street was allegedly beaten by an ex-employee and the run over by one of his own pickup trucks by that same employee.  The truck had GPS and police were able to locate the vehicle and arrest the suspect.

 

 

 

Fatal Crash After Police Pursuit

UPDATE: Police say the Jervon Winston, 22, of Brooklyn, New York was the driver of the car who died in this accident.  He was not wearing a seatbelt.  Police confirmed our report that he did not negotiate the curve of the ramp, and went straight down an embankment into a tree.

 

UPDATE: A state police accident summary said the 2015 Chrysler 200 involved in the crash is owned by Ari Rent a Car in Linden, N.J.  The driver has not been identified.  My sources told me the car was stolen and the driver had no identification on him.

 

11:17pm–#Stratford CT–#Trumbull Ct– #Fairfield CT– An off duty state trooper was struck by a car on Barnum Avenue Cutoff. She called 911 and spoke to Stratford Avenue Police that she was involved in a hit and run accident. A short time later Trumbull Police reported being in pursuit of that vehicle on the Merritt Parkway southbound. At 11:25 they reported the car had crashed at exit 46 which is just before the rest area in Fairfield and that it was possibly a fatality. Radio reports at 11:39 said it was, in fact, a DOA (dead on arrival) and the contact the medical examiner. EMS left the scene without a patient. The off duty trooper reported that there were three other individuals in the car but were nowhere to be found at the scene. Fairfield Police had their K-9 on the scene but had no track. It is speculated that they possibly were dropped off prior to the pursuit. This is breaking news and this report has not been confirmed by any official source.

Stratford News: Murder Investigation

On 08-13- 2017 shortly after midnight a shooting occurred on the street in front of 1854 North Avenue. The shooting followed what appeared to be a verbal argument. One 27 year old female victim was pronounced dead at Bridgeport Hospital. A 24 year old male victim is listed as critical as the result of a gun shot wound. The incident is still under investigation and police are trying to identify the shooter(s).
The shooting is an isolated incident and there is nor further danger at the scene. North Avenue was closed for several hours as a result of the shooting and subsequent investigation.
