#Norwalk CT–On the morning of December 21, 2021, Investigators of the Norwalk Police Department
Special Services Division served Jaequann Gilbert, who was already in prison for
unrelated offenses, with an arrest warrant for charges related to gun possession.
On May 06, 2021 at approximately 11:00 PM, Norwalk Police Officer Wasilewski
attempted to stop a speeding vehicle in the area of Main Avenue. The vehicle took off at
a high rate of speed attempting to elude the officer, and after a short distance the vehicle
lost control and ended up driving onto a property on Ward Street. The operator exited
the vehicle and fled on foot. Canine Officer Van Rensburg responded to the scene with
his Patrol Service Dog, Raza, to track the suspect. This track led officers to the area of
Ward Street. On May 7, 2021 the Special Services Division assumed the investigation.
On the same day, a Ruger Security 9, a 9mm handgun, equipped with a laser and a high
capacity magazine, was located on Ward Street. With the use of numerous investigative
techniques involving forensic evidence, interviews, several search warrants, and six
months of rigorous work, the investigators gleaned that Jaequann Gilbert (DOB
04/14/1992) was the operator of the fleeing vehicle, and was in possession of the
handgun.
An arrest warrant application was submitted for Gilbert’s arrest. Once approved, Special
Services Investigators traveled to MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution where
Gilbert was being held for narcotics related offenses, in order to serve the warrant.

Charges: Criminal Possession of a Pistol or Revovler, Illegal Possession of
Large Capacity Magazines, Interfere With an Officer and Engaging Police in a
Pursuit.
Bond: $250,000 Court set

BRIDGEPORT, CT – The Bridgeport Youth Engagement Collaborative (BYEC), in partnership with Senator Marilyn Moore and Housatonic Community College, today announced the Bridgeport Youth Engagement Resource Expo, being held on Saturday, January 15, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Housatonic Community College. The inaugural event will provide an opportunity for nonprofits to recruit Bridgeport youth for their programs, specifically eight to 24 year-olds.
 
“I hope parents will seize this opportunity to learn about the myriad of programs available for our children, adolescents, and young adults in Bridgeport,”  said Senator Marilyn Moore, who created the collaborative.“Federal and state funds awarded to nonprofits are most effective when all children have access to enrichment programs.”
 
“Housatonic is excited to partner with the Bridgeport Youth Engagement Collaborative to provide critical resources that can perhaps transform lives and shift the trajectory to a more meaningful future,” said Dr. Dwayne Smith, Chief Executive Officer of Housatonic Community College.
 
 “At a time when COVID-19 has forced many of our youth into long-term isolation, it has never been more important to provide them with opportunities to connect them to community programs and resources available to them,” said Michael A. Jordan, founder of the Bernard Buddy Jordan Foundation and BYEC member. “This collaborative expo is a great opportunity for Bridgeport youth and the organizations with a passion to serve them to come together under one roof to network and grow together.”
 
Interested participants are encouraged to register online as soon as possible, as space is limited due to COVID-19. The expo will be divided into two sessions in order to accommodate for attendance. The event will follow CDC and State of Connecticut mask mandate guidelines and all attendees will be required to show proof of COVID019 vaccination before entry. The deadline to register is Friday, January 7, 2022.

Reminds Residents of Christmas Tree Pickup Guidelines

Bridgeport, CT – In observance of the Christmas Holiday, the transfer station will be closed on, Friday, December 24^th, and Saturday, December 25^th, 2021. Trash and recycling will remain on schedule. Brown bag collection will be suspended until Monday, December 27^th, and will have a one-day delay for the remainder of the week.

Christmas tree collection will begin on Monday, January 10^th, and continue until Friday, February 4th. The City of Bridgeport is asking residents not to place Christmas trees curbside before Monday, January 10^th  to avoid safety hazards.

Every year, the trees that are collected are brought to the city landfill to be repurposed as mulch and used in parks throughout Bridgeport.

CHRISTMAS TREE PICKUP GUIDELINES

1. Place trees curbside at 6:00 a.m. on your scheduled Recycling Day. Please do not put trees outside days prior as they can be buried by snow or blown into streets causing a safety hazard. All trees must be free of decorations, lights, and plastic bags. Artificial trees will not be picked up.
2. Trees can also be brought to the City Transfer Station at 475 Asylum Street, Bridgeport.

In preparation for the busy holiday week, Troopers ask all motor vehicle operators to plan ahead before
heading to a party, gathering or retail destination. Thousands will take to the major interstates in Connecticut, so
it is vital that motorists follow traffic laws to prevent collisions and injuries.
Some tips from your Connecticut Troopers as you head out in the final days of 2021:
 Drive the speed limit.
 Keep a safe distance between your vehicle and the one in front of you.
 Ensure that all passengers are wearing seatbelts.
 Signal when turning, changing lanes or taking an exit.
 Refrain from texting or using your phone.
 Never consume alcoholic beverages, marijuana products or drugs, including medications that could
impact driving, before you get behind the wheel.
 Immediately reduce speed to a reasonable level below the posted speed limit or move over one lane
(when safe to do so) whenever law enforcement, fire trucks, ambulances or tow trucks are occupying a
lane. Please give them room to do their job efficiently and safely so that you are in compliance with the
state’s “Move Over” law.

Drivers are also reminded to plan their trips with care:
 Fill the gas tank prior to your journey.
 Check windshield wipers, windshield wiper fluid and tire pressure. Fully charge your cell phone prior to leaving home.
 Carry winter blankets, drinking water and snacks.
 Check traffic and weather conditions before leaving home.
 Keep a shovel and sand or salt in the trunk of your vehicle.
“We know that during a Connecticut winter, weather conditions can change at any time. We ask all drivers
to please note any weather precautions prior to leaving for your destination. As always, your top priority should
be the safety of yourself, your family and others on the road,” noted Colonel Stavros Mellekas, commanding
officer of the Connecticut State Police.
He added: “While on patrol, Troopers will focus on distracted driving and those who may be operating
under the influence. Please, be our partners in safety by following state traffic laws and call 911 if you see an
emergency on our roads.”
If planning to consume alcohol, residents are encouraged to designate a driver or use ride-sharing companies
