Syrians Coming To Bridgeport

#Bridgeport CT–Today, Governor Malloy said that Connecticut will continue to accept more than 1,600 refugees from Syria.  Arizona, Texas, Michigan and Alabama and President Obama’s home state of Illinois is suspending the refugee resettlement. The reason is that it is reported that some of the attackers in France came through Greece as a refugee.

The International Institute Of Connecticut (IICONN) located at 670 Clinton Avenue in Bridgeport has been listed as a group accepting the refugess according to the US Refugee Public Affiliate Directory (see http://www.scribd.com/doc/280725813/US-Refugee-Public-Affiliate-Directory). Catholic Charities of Hartford and the International Refugee and Immigrant Services in New Haven will be slated to process the refugees according to the list for Connecticut.

According to IICONN’s September newsletter: “The U.S. remains the single-largest donor of humanitarian aid for those affected by the Syria crisis, having put over $4 billion toward humanitarian assistance since the start of the conflict in March 2011. The U.S. has not, however, admitted many refugees since the war began. Mark Toner (deputy spokesman for the State Department) said in an interview on PRI’s The World, that 1,500 to 1,800 Syrian refugees will have been admitted to the U.S. by the end of October. Last week, U.S. aid groups and at least 14 senators called on the U.S. government to take in at least 75,000 Syrian refugees in 2016.”

Bridgeport Police Department Arrests Two Adults, Two Juveniles on Weapons Charges

#Bridgeport, Conn. (November 12, 2015) – The Bridgeport Police Department announced the arrest of two adults and two juveniles on weapons charges.  On Monday, November 9, police officers pulled a vehicle over at the intersection of Housatonic Ave. and North Washington Ave. for speeding and lacking proper registration.  In approaching the black, 4-door, 2001 Volkswagen, police officers identified that two adult males and two juvenile males were the occupants.  The driver of the vehicle – Daniel Joel Rosario Jr. of Derby (DOB: 5/10/1995) – wasn’t wearing his seatbelt.

When a police officer asked if anyone in the vehicle was on parole or probation, all parties responded “no” with the exception of Elijah Ceesay of Bridgeport (DOB: 3/20/1996).   Ceesay stated that he was out on bond for a gun charge. Rosario and Ceesay were asked to step out of the car, followed by police officers patting them down. Upon shining a flashlight into the vehicle, a police officer spotted the handle of a handgun sticking out from the floor mat associated with the rear right seat of the vehicle, which is where Mr. Ceesay was sitting prior to getting out of the car.  After further search of the vehicle, police officers identified the gun underneath the floor mat as a black handgun with a brown handle, and found a second handgun that was silver with a black handle in the driver’s seat rear flap compartment.   All four occupants of the vehicle were patted down, handcuffed, and arrested.

Rosario was charged with weapons in a motor vehicle, and was issued an infraction for motor vehicle offenses. Bond has been set at $10,000.  Ceesay was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, weapons in a motor vehicle, criminal possession of ammo, and violation of conditions of release. Bond has been set at $150,000.  One juvenile passenger was charged with weapons in a motor vehicle, and issued a misdemeanor summons. Bond has been set at Promise to Appear (PTA).   A second juvenile passenger was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, weapons in a motor vehicle, criminal possession of a firearm, theft of a firearm, and was issued a misdemeanor summons. Bond information is unavailable at this time.  It was also found that the second juvenile passenger is on parole, and plead out to a Serious Juvenile Offense (SJO).
