Veterans Encouraged To Have Name on Fairield Memorial

First Selectman Tetreau announced today that beginning Monday, May 28, 2012, when the
Town celebrates Memorial Day with its annual parade, a sign will be placed by the Fairfield War
Memorial Honor Roll in front of the Old Town Hall to encourage Veterans to have their names
placed on this special Wall.

Anyone interested in having their name or the name of a loved one on the Honor Roll must
submit a Military Form DD-214 to the Office of the First Selectman, 725 Old Post Road. Any
questions can be directed to Nancy Fray at 256-3030. A State stipulation for inclusion on the
Honor Roll is that the applicant must have been a Fairfield resident at the time of enlistment. All
submissions shall be reviewed by a VFW representative to determine if qualifications have been
met.

Created in 1945, the Fairfield War Memorial Honor Roll began as a wooden-framed structure,
which contained the names of World War II veterans. The passing of years caused the initial
memorial to deteriorate beyond repair and it was removed. The construction of today’s modern
structure was initiated by a group of public-spirited citizens of the Town who donated both the
material and labor for the base foundation. The Committee, which supervised and handled all
arrangements for the project, was composed of the combined Veterans groups of the Town.
Area companies completed the job. Today’s Honor Roll features seven large panels with
thousands of names of local residents who served in the nation’s 20th and 21st century wars.
