Judging from this post on WTNH’s website it looks as if they are looking for a news anchor to replace Sonia Baghdady.   The post says: ” You’ll be anchoring most of your newscasts sitting next to this guy, Darren Kramer (Go ahead and take a peek, I’ll make it easy: http://www.wtnh.com/dpp/news/news_team/darren_kramer)”.  The anchor that works with Darren is Sonia.   This is sometimes a negotiation tactic to scare talent that they are looking for a replacement.

Soinia Baghdady joined WTNH in December 2002 and has anchors the weekday evening shows “News 8″ at 5pm, 5:30 and 11pm.  Sonia is a graduate of Fairfield University and her sister Amanda Baghdady, a biology teacher at Bethel High School, in Bethel, Connecticut.  Sonia has also modeled and Sonia’s portfolio can be found online  at d.d. Shortly after 3:30pm Saturday a car parked on North Avenue suddenly accelerated, jumping the curb, broke through a railing and crashed into a a car parked at  M & M Auto Repair located at 414 North Avenue.     Marcos Zasilva was inside M&M Auto Repair the accident occurred and said he thought something exploded inside the shop.   Assistant Fire Chief Ivan Fossesigurani of the Bridgeport Fire Department said the car knocked out a main  support truss making the building unstable until they get someone shore it up.  Fossesigurani said the driver of the vehicle was rushed to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Shortly after 11am this morning after a three car crash on the Route 7 connector.  6 people from the Toyota Tacoma pickup truck that rolled were hospitalized, witnesses tell us about three of the occupants were thrown from the vehicle.  They were transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport because Norwalk Hospital was on trauma diversion, which means they were not accepting patients at that time with serious injuries.  Condition of those hospitalized are not known at this time.   Special thanks to Nate Yates for providing the photo.

12:54pm–#Trumbull–Trumbull informed Fairfield Police of a signal 67 which Fairfield codes as “House Entered”. This could be a break in or home invasion. This took place on Park Ave. near the town line a informing Fairfield in case they cross the border investigating. If we get any updates we will pass them along.

Bridgeport Police have info that there are 4 parties at Green Homes looking to shoot parties on the West and East Side in retaliation to last weeks shooting. So much for the rally/march the other night.

8:11pm–A stolen car crashed after a minor purist with police detectives on McKinley Ave.

8:01pm–#Bridgeport–A five year old on James Street just called 911 to complain his mother left him in the care of his 10 year old brother. Police on the way.

A 14 year old girl was stabbed in the thigh at Iranistan and Wood Ave. by two males about 15-16 years of age. They were dressed in all black, the fled fled east on foot. towards Park Ave. The girl was transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital for treatment.

7:38pm–Bridgeport–Report of an odor of natural gas at1659 Fairfield Ave.

As we reported live as it was happening 5 teens were arrested for stealing a car at the funeral of 14-year-old Justin Thompson. @blyte of the CTPost is reporting that the cops said it appears they stole it because they needed to get to the cemetery.

Thursday night at Sullivan  Independence Hall at the Fire Commission Meeting five new firefighters were sworn in to duty.    Immediately following that formal ceremony, Chief Felner called departing Fire Commissioner and former Chairman Tony Jannotta forward to be recognized for his decade of service and commitment to the Fairfield Fire Department

Friday the 13th was a most unlucky day for one patron at the Pleasant Moment Cafe at 1 William Street in Bridgeport. Shortly after midnight police were called to the cafe, officers quickly called for a supervisor who in turn called detectives to investigate what they are calling an untimely death. There were no signs of foul play, no bruises or contusions.   Police suspect he might have been diabetic, they continue their investigation. 

WASHINTON, DC – Senator Joseph Lieberman (ID-CT), Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), and Congressman Jim Himes (D-CT) today sent a letter to Michael Astrue, the Commissioner of the Social Security Administration (SSA), expressing serious concerns with the SSA’s decision to close the Norwalk Social Security Office and relocate its employees.

“We are writing today to express our serious concerns with your office’s decision to close the Norwalk Social Security Office and relocate its employees to the other local offices within the Norwalk service district. We are united in our objection to this decision and the SSA timeline to close this office without retaining a satellite office or services in Norwalk as this action will place an undue hardship on beneficiaries,” said the lawmakers.

The office services approximately 320 clients per week and operates in a service area of which approximately 45,000 individuals are elderly. In the letter, the lawmakers urge Commissioner Astrue to reconsider the decision to close the Norwalk office and postpone the closure while full review is given to their concerns and those concerns expressed by the community. The lawmakers also expressed dismay over an apparent delay in notification of SSA’s plans.

BRIDGEPORT — Teenagers, mothers whose children have been shot and killed on the city’s streets, babies in strollers, preteen girls — hundreds of them poured onto Stratford Avenue on Wednesday night to rally against the kind of senseless violence that led to the death of 14-year-old Justin Thompson on Sunday.  Thompson was gunned down about 12:20 a.m. on Seaview Avenue while walking home with his friends after a 16th birthday party.  Read full article….
