Snow Emergency Remains in Effect
BRIDGEPORT, CT (February 5, 2014) – City Public Works crew will be removing snow from downtown Bridgeport streets to clear major roads and sidewalks in preparation for the next predicted storm, which is expected to hit the Bridgeport area this weekend.
Beginning at 10 p.m. tonight (Wednesday), City crews will begin removing snow in the area from Lafayette Boulevard to Water Street and from Frontage Roads to Congress Street.
“As a transportation hub and the home to numerous businesses, local, state and federal government agencies, and hundreds of residents, it is critical that we keep our downtown neighborhood clear and passable for drivers and pedestrians,” said Mayor Finch. “Crews will work throughout the night tonight to ensure our downtown is ready for business as usual tomorrow morning.”
The Snow Emergency remains in effect, and vehicles must be moved off marked Snow Emergency routes. Main, Congress, Golden Hill, John, Main, Broad and State streets and Fairfield Avenue and Lafayette Boulevard are Snow Emergency streets. A full list of Snow Emergency streets can be found on the City’s website — http://www.bridgeportct.gov/
Residents should move their cars to the odd-numbered side of the street tonight by 7 p.m., so crews can continue to clear the even-numbered side of the street.
During the storm, residents with non-emergency, weather-related questions or concerns should call the City’s BConnected Call Center at 203.576.1311 or the Emergency Operations Center at 203.579.3829. Residents can use the City’s BConnected request system online at www.bridgeportct.gov/
For the latest updates, resources and information about the snowstorm, residents are asked to check www.bridgeportct.gov/snow, local television and radio news outlets and follow the City of Bridgeport on Twitter and Facebook and Mayor Bill Finch on Twitter and Facebook.
Look forward to spring in this new listing!

CVS to stop selling cigarettes
I stopped at a CVS for the first time in a while. I asked the cashiers if the new Fairfield Walgreen’s hurt their business. They said that since CVS stopped selling cigarettes there has been a big drop off of customers and their hours have been cut as a result. The article below was originally posted February 5, 2014. CVS stopped selling cigarettes in October 2015.
CVS announced today that they will no longer carry cigarettes by October 1st. “We’ve got 26,000 pharmacists and nurse practitioners who are helping millions of patients each and every day,” said Larry Merlo, the chief executive of CVS Caremark. “They manage conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes — all conditions that are worsened by smoking. We’ve come to the decision that cigarettes have no place in an environment where healthcare is being delivered.”
Cigarettes count for over two billion dollars in sales for the store.
