Bridgeport Fire Leaves 7 Homeless

7:33pm–#Bridgeport CT–Firefighters were called to 335 Wilmont Avenue for a porch fire. When firefighters arrived they found heavy smoke and fire on the back porch. The winds helped the fire jump to another house next to it. The bulk of the fire remained at 335 Wilmont Avenue, firefighters report all three floors heavily engulfed in flames. Fire quickly broke through the roof and a partial roof collapse prompted the firefighters to call the evacuation tones which are the fire truck horn blasts you heard at the beginning of the video. All firefighters evacuated the house and conducted a defensive attack from the outside. Within the hour firefighters had both house fires out. The fire marshal was called to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire. The Red Cross was called to help relocate 3 adults and 4 children. There were no major injuries to anyone at the scene.

Bridgeport News: Child Burned

12:00am–#Bridgeport CT–Prayers needed for a 3 year old burned by hot water in the 300 block of Vine Street.  I had my son reach up and grab the pot of coffee on himself when he was 3.  It is really hard on the parents.  My son completely healed through prayer.  The child has been transported to Bridgeport Hospital, they have the best burn unit around.

Bridgeport News: Man Arrested In Last Night’s Shooting

Bridgeport, Conn. (May 3, 2015) – Bridgeport Police have arrested Efrain Rivera, 723 Ogden St. He is being charged with Murder, Criminal Attempt at Murder and Assault in the First Degree.

 

Shortly after 1:00 a.m. Sunday morning, Miguel Martinez and his brother, Jose Martinez  both of East Main Street, went to 723 Ogden Street to confront Rivera about threats he allegedly made against them. An altercation ensued and Rivera shot both Martinez brothers.

 

Miguel was taken to Bridgeport Hospital by ambulance where he died. Jose was shot in the shoulder and was taken to Saint Vincent’s Hospital. He will survive his injuries.

 

Rivera was arrested and confessed to the shooting. He is charged with Murder, Criminal Attempt at Murder, and Assault in the First Degree. He is being held on a $1 million bond.

 

“Thanks to the prompt attention of both our patrol unit and our detective bureau, we were able to quickly apprehend the suspect,” said Assistant Chief James Nardozzi. “This is a tragic result from a personal dispute.”

 

Overall, violence and property crime continue go down in Bridgeport. In 2014, Bridgeport experienced a 3.6 percent reduction in violent crime and a 4.9 percent drop in property crime compared to 2013, according to statistics compiled for the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report. In all, violent crime in Bridgeport is down by 30 percent since 2001. And, so far in 2015, violent crime has gone down by almost 16 percent compared to the first three months of 2014.
