Small & Minority Business Enterprise Director Fred Gee reminds local business owners that there are still resources available to provide emergency relief to businesses impacted by COVID-19; such as Emergency Injury Disaster Loans.

 

Emergency Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) of up to $150,000 are available to business owners via the Small Business Administration (SBA) to provide financial relief from temporary loss of revenue caused by COVID-19. Funds from this loan may be used to pay an array of operating expenses which include health care benefits, rent, utilities, and debt payment.  

 

Mayor Ganim stated, “We want to make sure that every business has the opportunity to make it through this pandemic and be successful. It’s important to our community that small businesses survive this difficult economic environment caused by COVID and this is one of the resources available that may help owners get through it.”

Bridgeport News: Weapon Charges

On September 3rd, 2020 members of the Gang Unit (SUVCCCTF), Statewide Narcotics, FBI Safe Street and ATF working together executed a Search Warrant at 88 Butler Avenue Bridgeport, CT utilizing Police Emergency Services Unit. The investigation was conducted to help combat the rise in firearm violence taking place throughout the city of Bridgeport, CT. Upon execution of the search warrant members of Emergency Services Unit (ESU) encountered a male later identified as Jermaine Bethel DOB 2/25/1996 laying on the couch in possession of a fully-loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun. Bethel was taken into custody without incident.

 

Upon further investigation the firearm was confirmed stolen. Bethel was arrested on the below C.G.S.
*Illegal Sale/Transfer of firearm -29-33
*Illegal Alteration of Firearm -29-36
*Failure to properly store loaded firearm-29-37i
*Risk of injury to child -53-21(a)(1)
*Stealing firearm- 53a-212
*Violate condition of release 1st degree -53a-222

Fairfield News: Intoxicated Teen At Fairfield U

2020-09-04@11:47pm–#Fairfield CT– #FairfieldU– First responders responding to Fairfield University for an intoxicated teen at townhouse #8 for an intoxicated 19-year-old girl.  So glad taxpayers have the money for this and putting first responders at risk during the pandemic.  I bet she doesn’t even get fined. They will just keep doing it.  Oh yea, Fairfield University pays no taxes to the town.

Westport News: Basement Fire

Westport firefighters were dispatched to a report of a fire in a residence on Morningside Lane. The initial dispatch was four Engines, one Truck company, and the shift commander. A mutual aid Ladder company was added en route for the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT).

 

Westport Engine 5 arrived 1 st and reported smoke showing from the residence. Engine 5 stretched a 1 3/4” attack line to the rear of the house and located a fire in the basement. Truck 1’s crew assisted with locating and confining the fire to the basement while performing a primary search of the basement and coordinated ventilation to limit smoke and fire damage. Engine 6’s crew performed a primary search on the 1 st and second floor while checking for fire extension. Engine 2’s crew stretched a second attack line and ventilated smoke and carbon monoxide from the 1 st and 2 nd floors. Engine 4’s crew provided salvage and overhaul and were tasked with controlling utilities.

 

The fire was contained to the room of origin. In addition to the Fairfield fire department providing RIT on the scene, Norwalk and Wilton Fire departments provided mutual aid station coverage, responding to multiple emergency calls while Westport firefighters were extinguishing the basement fire. Westport PD and Westport EMS assisted on the scene as well. The incident is under investigation by members of the Westport Fire Marshal’s office. The last fire department unit cleared the scene at 1:38 PM.

Norwalk News: Stolen Cars

#Norwalk CT–On September 3, 2020 at 11:44 PM, an Officer who was patrolling the area of EastNorwalk noticed a vehicle traveling with neither headlights nor taillights illuminated. The Officer followed the vehicle and a short time later, the three occupants bailed while the vehicle was still in motion. The vehicle came to a stop when it rolled into a chain. Officers flooded the area in an attempt to locate the occupants. They were not located. Since Friday, August 28, 2020 (a week ago), there have been eight motor vehicles stolen from a different residents within the City of Norwalk. Each of these stolen vehicles had the keys left in the car. Neighboring towns are reporting similar upticks in stolen motor vehicles. In most of the Norwalk cases, arrests have been made and the vehicles have been located.

We implore the Norwalk community to ALWAYS lock all car doors and remove all valuables from within. NEVER leave keys or fobs anywhere in the vehicle, no matter how well you think they are hidden, or even if you believe the vehicle is blocked in.

Stratford News: Woman Shot

Officers from the Stratford Police Department responded to 90 Birch Drive to investigate a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, one female gunshot victim was located. She was transported to the hospital for treatment and is in stable condition. Several witnesses were spoken to at the scene and the investigation is ongoing at this time. This was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the general public.  The suspect is an unknown male last seen wearing all dark clothing.
