His interest in news spread to become the communities breaking news leader in Connecticut’s Fairfield County. He strongly believes that the public has right to know what is happening in their backyard and that government needs to be transparent. Steve also likes promoting local businesses.

Running Of The Bull On Fairfield Woods Road Fairfield

Around 2pm Monday motorists on Fairfield Woods Road near the library were surprised when a cow and a bull were seen running in the road and in backyards.  Police 911 received over a half dozen calls.   Bovine owner Wyatt Whiteman told us that he was on his way to the feed store for more feed when the cow and bull broke loose.  They saw all the green around them and the appeal of fresh vegetation proved too much for them so the broke loose for some self service eats.  "Joey" is a one year old bull that is still a little on the  mischievous side, while his mother is three years old and can be called by shaking a pail…

Fire department delayed by UI in battling car fire

[caption id="attachment_7291" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Pasquale captured this photo of the cars on fire at James Street."][/caption] Bridgeport-At 11:06pm Sunday night fire officials received a call regarding a two car accident with one car on fire  on James Street near Washington Ave.    When fire officials arrived on scene they realized they could not battle the blaze because a power line had fallen onto one of the vehicles.  They immediately called United Illuminating  for an emergency crew to secure power immediately.  Fire officials determined that all occupants were safely out of the vehicles and then called for additional police to help secure the scene and to block off roads.  Fire officials called dispatch again as they were concerned that embers from the…

No one hurt as fire guts Stratford home

STRATFORD -- No one was home when a fire broke out in a Woodend Road home late Sunday afternoon, except for the family's curly-haired black dog named Geo. When a neighbor spotted the smoke coming from the house's windows, he tried to run in to save the pet, but the smoke was too strong. 2 Families Forced From Their Home in Stratford Fire

Around midnight Saturday morning Stratford Firefighters were called to battle a two family house fire at 393/395 Columbus Avenue. When firefighters arrived the entire front portion of the left side of the duplex was fully involved and was extending into the right side of the duplex. Homeowner Anthony Scraders told us he was getting ready to go to bed when he was alerted to flames coming from his neighbors front door. Assistant Fire Chief Lance Edwards said firefighters did an phenomenal job extinguishing the fire and making sure everyone got out. Fire On Nobel Ave. Bridgeport

Around 11:15pm Bridgeport Firefighters responded to a fire at 896 Nobel Avenue Friday night.  Upon arrival the heavy smoke in the area challenged the firefighters in locating the correct apartment with the fire.   The located the fire in a bathroom on the second floor of 896 Nobel Avenue.   Firefighters hear there might be children trapped in the building but primary and secondary searches resulted negative in locating any one trapped in the apartments including pets.  Assistant Fire Chief Manuel Firpi told us that firefighters quickly contained the fire from spreading to then adjoining apartments.

Food Stamp Rolls Grow 70%

45 million people in 2011 received Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, a 70% increase from 2007. It said the number of people receiving the benefits, commonly known as food stamps, would continue growing until 2014. Spending for the program, not including administrative costs, rose to $72 billion in 2011, up from $30 billion four years earlier. Moped Struck By Car in Bridgeport

Shortly after 4:30pm Wednesday afternoon a moped was struck by a car at the intersection of Poplar and Dewey Street in Bridgeport. Witnesses tell me that the moped swerved wide to avoid being hit by another car that left the scene and he ran into the silver car in the process. The witness also said the man was under the car for a period of time which is why police were adamant about him being check by paramedics. Police are investigating.

Boat Rescue On Long Island Sound

Three adults were rescued by Bridgeport Fire Department's water rescue team just after 12 noon Wednesday.  They reported to the Coast Guard that their boat were taking on water, all three were wearing their life jackets.   The Coast Guard reported an estimated 40 minute response time but Bridgeport quickly responded, brought the three to shore and had the boat towed as well.
