Chinese Nationalist gives authorities a scare

5:20pm–A Chinese Nationalist who just graduated from a local university with a degree in electrical engineering, out on a extended student visa gave authorities in Bridgeport a bit of a scare. I have not heard back from Bridgeport Police’s spokesperson, but radio controlled flyers and other sources have reached out to us and helped piece this story together. Apparently the graduate was flying his radio controlled airplane at Seaside Park near the soccer field. The plane had a video camera mounted on it. The plane malfunctioned and lost communication to the controller. The plane is also a glider so when it lost communication with the controller it continued gliding, landing near the power plant property. The student then drove to the power plant to see if he could retrieve his plane. The plant workers followed protocol and called police. The radio report to officers said there was a person with remote controlled airplane recording the power plant.

When I arrived on scene police officers with a supervisor on scene were trying to piece together what was happening. Their protocol in this situation with a power plant is to call the federal government’s Homeland Security division. We confirmed that Homeland Security called the FBI to the scene to investigate. The FBI reviewed the students laptop and confirmed his story that he flew the plane at Seaside Park and never flew over the power plant.
