Bridgeport News: Fire Chief Thode Receives 5 Year Appointment

Bridgeport – Mayor Joe Ganim announced today named Richard Thode to a five-year appointment as Bridgeport Fire Chief.  Thode is a 30-year veteran of the Bridgeport Fire Department and had served as provisional chief since May 2016 when former Chief Brian Rooney retired.   “I am very happy today to announce the appointment of Chief Thode for a full five year term leading the Bridgeport Fire Department,” said Mayor Ganim.  “Chief Thode has demonstrated over the nine months he has served as provisional chief that he is a true leader of the Fire Department and commands deep respect and admiration from the nearly 300 firefighters under his command.  Chief Thode is also a very smart and capable manager, figuring out…

Bridgeport News: Homicide Suspect Captured In Pennsylvania

12:12pm--#Bridgeport Connecticut-- Oscar Hernandez, wanted for the alleged stabbing homicide and abduction of a six year old on Greenwood Street was captured by Pennsylvania State Police and his daughter Aylin Sofia Hernandez was found to be safe.   Chief A.J. Perez said around 2:45am the mother and a friend came home and the suspect was upset the mother of his child came home so late.  The Chief said there was “a lot of alcohol and blood ... it was a horrible, horrible scene, just awful that people suffered that way.”  Police say Oscar Hernandez is an illegal immigrant from El Salvador who was once deported.    The mother who has not yet been identified was killed.  Her friend was reported…

Bridgeport News: Fire On Union Avenue

12:43pm--#Bridgeport Connecticut-- Firefighters battled a fire at an abandoned home at 751 Union Avenue.  Firefighters reported heavy fire upon their arrival.  Firefighters had the fire under control in about 20 minutes and then chased hot spots for about another 20 minutes. EMS was released by firefighters around 1:30pm with no patients or injuries reported.

Bridgeport News: Accident Investigation Team On Main Street

9:30pm--#Bridgeport Connecticut-- The police accident recreation team is on the scene of a serious crash in front of 3411 Main Street. The road is closed at Keeler and Thorme Street. Witnesses said it appears the small white car attempted to turn left at Thorme Street into the path of the Mustang. The force of the crash pushed the over the median half way between Thorme and Keeler Street. There were at least three people transported to the hospital in serious condition according the witnesses.
