The two victims  remain in critical condition.   The victims are a 60-year-old woman and her 6-year-old niece.  Police have not released their names.  They were crossing Washington Ave at Highland Street when they were struck. Two other young children made it across the street safely and were not injured.

The aunt remains at Bridgeport Hospital.  The 6-year-old girl was transferred today to Yale-New Haven Hospital where she also remains in critical condition.

A light color large size SUV which fled north on Washington toward Catherine is responsible for the accident. It is missing a side mirror, which was found at the crash scene and recovered as evidence.

A quote from Police Chief Joseph L. Gaudett Jr.–“The department’s traffic division is conducting an intensive investigation. To the driver: The clock is ticking. If you panicked and fled the scene, we need to hear from you.”
