Man Shot on Main Street Two Hours Into the New Year
Two hours into the New Year, a person was shot on Main Street in Bridgeport, prompting an early-morning response from the Bridgeport Police Department. At approximately 2 a.m., officers responded to the 2400 block of Main Street following reports of a person shot. Upon arrival, police located one victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is not listed in critical condition. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing. Bridgeport Officials Report Sharp Declines in Violent and Property Crime

According to figures presented by city leaders, violent crime is down 37% overall, while property crime has declined 24%. Homicides are down 66%, and shooting incidents have dropped 30% citywide. Additional data shows sexual assaults are down 35%, robberies have fallen 46%, and aggravated assaults — including shootings, stabbings, and multi-person fights — are down 28%. Witness Reports Single Gunshot During Fight at Trumbull Mall
An anonymous witness reports that a single gunshot was fired during a brief fight inside the Trumbull Mall Friday evening. According to the witness, the incident occurred around 5:35 p.m. when a group of teenagers came up the escalator from the food court toward the front of Macy’s and began yelling. Several individuals allegedly threw punches, and during the altercation one person reportedly pulled out a black semi-automatic handgun and fired a single shot, which struck the ground.
