Stratford Gas Leak
#4:39pm–#Stratford CT–Firefighters are on the way to Hollister Avenue near I-95 for a report of an outdoor odor of gas. Milford did call Stratford that they are tracking an odor of gas near I-95 but have not located the source.
Depressing Day?
A lot of suicide attempts in the area today. We won’t report specifics but a Fairfield man today was rushed to the hospital after intentionally swallowing anti-freeze to end his life. Firefighters in Bridgeport cut down a person who attempted to hang themselves, performed CPR and saved their life. In one town a 13 year old was transported for evaluation for suicidal thoughts and in another town (towns intentionally not posted) another 13 year old intentionally attempted to overdose on her psychiatric medication. There appears to be an increase in psychiatric calls but earlier in November 2012 Governor Malloy cut $80 million to health and human services.
Police Investigate Intentional Gas Break
2:44pm–#Bridgeport CT–Police are investigating an intentional cutting of a natural gas line between two tenants in the 1900 block of East Main Street.

2:16pm–#Bridgeport CT—A renter at Planet Self Storage at 1488 Barnum Ave called police that his storage container and several items are missing.
Trumbull Business Closings
Two long-time Trumbull Center businesses, with deep town roots, are closing this week.
Marie’s Sandwich Shop, 920 White Plains Road, was serving its final customers Monday afternoon, after 47 years.
Mackenzie’s Pharmacy, just a few doors down from Marie’s is closing Friday and reopening as CVS on Monday, March 18. Mackenzie’s has been in business for about 80 years.
“It’s an economic decision,” said owner Kathleen Hallahan. “Traffic in the center has been significantly reduced and even more so by the loss of Porricelli’s. We can’t keep limping along.” Trumbull Times has the full story here……
National Shooting Sports Foundation donating 2,500 gun safety locks today
The Newtown-based National Shooting Sports Foundation is donating 2,500 gun safety locks to Bridgeport, Stratford, Fairfield and Waterbury to be distributed to residents free of charge. “We encourage residents to pick up a Project ChildSafe safety kit so that they can learn about the options they have to properly and securely store their firearms at home,” said Steve Sanetti, the CEO of the National Shooting Sports Foundation. “We thank Mayor Finch and Police Chief Gaudett for their leadership in helping to raise awareness about preventing unauthorized access and for distributing these firearm safety kits to gun owners.”
WHAT: Police chiefs and mayors and First Selectmen from Bridgeport and Stratford announce free gun locks from the National Shooting Sports Foundation.
WHEN: Tuesday, March 12 at 4 p.m.

Applications Available for Police Citizens Academy
The application deadline is March 15, and the academy will be held on Thursday evenings from April 4 to June 20.
Participants will have unique access and opportunities to engage and interact with police. The students will have an chance to do a ride-along with a patrol officer, tour the city’s 911 center, see a demonstration by one of the department’s K-9 teams and learn about crime scene processing. They also will gain insight into gangs and learn about the operations about the narcotics and vice unit. “The police department and public need to work together to make Bridgeport the safest city possible. Neither can do it alone,” said Mayor Bill Finch. “This is a real opportunity for people to interact one-on-one with their police officers and learn how they do the job.”
The class size will be limited to 30 students.
Here are some basic requirements:
· Students must be 21 or older.
· They must be a Bridgeport resident, taxpayer or business owner.
· They must be U.S. citizens
Candidates must be of good moral character, in good physical condition and cannot have convictions of a felony or Class A or B misdemeanor.
