School bus video shows agent firing gun at suspect, bus driver calming students

Trumbull/Bridgeport–Two weeks after a police shooting on Old Town Road that was witnessed by dozens of students on a Frenchtown School bus, school Transportation Director Dawn Perkins is still awed by the calm demeanor and quick actions of bus driver Ralph Cerulo.

“He was thinking about the kids the entire time,” Perkins said.

Perkins recently allowed the Trumbull Times to view video footage from two Trumbull school buses that were at the scene when federal agents attempted to capture Jeffrey Thomas, 21, who had earlier fled police looking into gang-related activity in the area.

Woman Claims She Was Arrested For Videotaping Cops

NEW HAVEN — An Ansonia woman said she was arrested after refusing to give police her cell phone that she used to videotape the officers making an arrest.  Jennifer Gondola, 35, said she stuffed her iPhone into her bra when police asked her to turn it over to them. Warrant Issued In 10th Homicide-Bridgeport

Bridgeport Police Detective Bureau, was able to secure an arrest warrant for 51 yr. old Mario Chavez, Bridgeport resident, charging him with MURDER, with a court set Bond of $ 900,00.00.

Mr. Chavez has been identified as the responsible individual for the stabbing of Francisco Barbosa 23 yr.old, that intervene on a street fight that occurred on May 27, 2012, in front of 573 Arctic Street.

Anyone with information to the location of Mr. Chavez, is asked to contact the Detective Bureau at 203-581-5201 or Lt. Chris LaMaine at 203-581-5206. All information will be kept confidential.

11:47pm–Westport — I-95 southbound by exit 17 for a rollover accident and a report of ejected passengers.  UPDATE–Early reports indicate at least one death in this accident.

9:54pm–Bridgeport–A man was just brought by a friend  into St. Vincent’s Hospital with very serious injuries after being beaten with a baseball bat. Police were also called because the victim had a weapon on him.  Victim is not cooperating where or when the assault took place.

9:16pm–#Fairfield–Strong odor of electrical burning 600 block of Sasco Hill Road. Fire department on scene nothing showing from the road.

:10am–Bridgeport–High speed chase starting on North Ave. towards downtown winds up on Housatonic Ave , back to North Ave. with suspect throwing things out the window.  Like on TV the cop does call out the location of the drop.  One guess what they recovered…..pursuit ends on Boston Ave. at East Main Street.  Suspected had to be tazed to be apprehended.

11:28pm–Bridgeport–Report of an odor of gas 1700 block of Central Ave.  Fire department meters and finds nothing…

5:38pm–Bridgeport–Report of an odor of gas at Greene Homes (Harral Ave.) Building 2 on the 4th floor.  UPDATE–Faulty stove, gas has been shut off to it.

2:40pm–Fairfield–Police on scene to remove a former member who was asked to leave Planet Fitness on Black Rock Turnpike. Does he pick things up and put them dowwwwn?

1:07pm–New Haven–A man was shot in the leg at 360 Columbus Avenue. Suspect fled in a silver car, possibly an Audi.

12:57pm–Bridgeport–1 year old boy found in front of 669 Capitol Ave by a bypasser.

12:14pm–Bridgeport–A 7 year old boy has his finger stuck in the slide at Park City Magnet School at 1526 Chopsey Hill Road. Fire department and EMTs on the way. Reports indicate it is on the ladder portion of the slide.

A trooper from CT. State Police Troop G has been dispatched to the Superior Court GA #2 in Bridgeport (per the court directory this is the courthouse at 172 Golden Hill St). The trooper was dispatched because an inmate has an altercation in which he assaulted both a probation officer as well as a judicial marshal and the judicial marshal requested state police in order to press additional charges against the individual.

11:53pm–Bridgeport–Report of a carbon monoxide alarm with symptoms at 157 Ash Street. 12:02am–Update–Fire department has no reading for CO and sounding recall. One person is being transported to the hospital for evaluation.

10:42pm–Home invasion at 121 Elmwood Place, 2 are arrested one man flees in a four door sedan. Reports say a gun was held to a two year old’s head. Police are investigating.

10:42pm–Bridgeport–Wild man on TCP in Washington Park, EMTs on the way.

9:55pm–Bridgeport–Water main break on Fairfield Ave. near Broad and Courtland Street area. Expect media onslaught shortly. For some reason they devote as much video time to these as shootings.

9:12pm–Bridgeport–A possibly intoxicated man was robbed, assaulted and left unconscious at the Fairfield Ave. at Clinton Ave. near the market.

8:28pm–Bridgeport–Roosevelt School at 680 Park was burglarized, computers taken. Three teens being detained at Lewis and Iranistan Ave. one toting a computer. Police checking for more suspects.

7:45pm–Stratford–Reports of shots fired at 173 Larkin Court turns out to be from a pellet gun.

4:31pm–Bridgeport–Police investigating an accident where and elderly man’s car came to a rest in the 300 block of Dogwood Drive. The car was smoking as the man was unresponsive and had his foot on the accelerator. The man is bleeding from the chest. Police breaks the car window to get to the man. This is breaking news so info can change. Fire department, police on scene, EMTs on the way.

1:48pm–2 calls for the fire department, a rubbish fire on Anchorage Drive (off Grovers) and an activated fire alarm 900 block of Main Street. Main Street turned out to be a light smoke condition that was ventilated by the fire department.

Gun Violence Summit in Bridgeport

Mayor Bill Finch and Governor Dannel Malloy’s Undersecretary for Criminal Justice Michael Lawlor, working together with state and federal law enforcement representatives, hosted a public forum at Kolbe Cathedral High School.

The forum brought together representatives from nonprofits, health care providers, education, after school providers, clergy, business community, neighborhood representatives, community members and those whose lives have been touched by violence.

This is the first of two to strategize solutions to the recent uptick in gun violence in the City. A second forum will be held on June 26 at 6 p.m at Housatonic Community College.

Easton–Another mother who lost her son on 9/11 once told Eunice Hanson she was “floating on a pillow of kindness and love” as a result of the outpouring of generosity from the first responders and community.  Ms. Hanson used those words to describe the gratitude she felt to the Easton community for completing the 9/11 memorial, which adorns the grounds in front of the library.
