Bridgeport--Early afternoon Monday a report of work panel style van was stolen near Main Street and Madison Avenue. There was a rash of work vans being stolen in town and police had already done their homework on this case. Just before 4pm the stolen van was located near Main Street and Capitol Avenue and a brief pursuit took place. The driver attempted to hit oncoming police cars. The pursuit came to a end at the end of French Street and a foot pursuit took place, the suspect ran through backyards on French Street and Parrot Ave where he was captured. One officer received a shoulder injury and was transported to St. Vincent's Hospital for treatment.
BRIDGEPORT -- Two men were shot Tuesday morning near the Greene Homes on Washington Avenue, and one left a trail of blood along the sidewalk between Buildings 4 and 5. Det. Around 2pm Monday motorists on Fairfield Woods Road near the library were surprised when a cow and a bull were seen running in the road and in backyards. Police 911 received over a half dozen calls. Bovine owner Wyatt Whiteman told us that he was on his way to the feed store for more feed when the cow and bull broke loose. They saw all the green around them and the appeal of fresh vegetation proved too much for them so the broke loose for some self service eats. They immediately called United Illuminating for an emergency crew to secure power immediately. STRATFORD -- No one was home when a fire broke out in a Woodend Road home late Sunday afternoon, except for the family's curly-haired black dog named Geo. When a neighbor spotted the smoke coming from the house's windows, he tried to run in to save the pet, but the smoke was too strong. Just in time for the dinner rush around 5pm Sunday a car crashed into the front window of the newly opened 5 Guys Hamburgers in the Whole Foods Plaza at 340 Grasmere Ave. No one was injured. The picture window frame was bent but the structure remained intact and the restaurant remained opened.
Around midnight Saturday morning Stratford Firefighters were called to battle a two family house fire at 393/395 Columbus Avenue. When firefighters arrived the entire front portion of the left side of the duplex was fully involved and was extending into the right side of the duplex. Homeowner Anthony Scraders told us he was getting ready to go to bed when he was alerted to flames coming from his neighbors front door. Assistant Fire Chief Lance Edwards said firefighters did an phenomenal job extinguishing the fire and making sure everyone got out.
