Bridgeport Mayor Touts Convict Re-entry

Bridgeport, CT – Mayor Joe Ganim  is touting the substantive accomplishments of the Mayor’s Initiative on Re-entry Affairs (MIRA), a comprehensive city government program launched by Mayor Ganim in August 2016 to help formerly incarcerated individuals in Bridgeport advance their careers and establish new lives.  When the program launched, city officials managing the MIRA program estimated they would reach 50 returning citizens in the first few months.  Instead, MIRA has engaged with more than 155 returning citizens from Bridgeport more than doubling this prediction by engaging with 139 returning citizens from the City of Bridgeport, and enrolling more than 120 into the program.  MIRA has successfully referred nearly 70 returning citizens for employment, and successfully placed more than 55 individuals…

Bridgeport News: Funds From Hud

Bridgeport, CT – Mayor Joe Ganim announced today that the City of Bridgeport is now accepting applications for approximately $3,200,000 in entitlement funds from the US Department of Housing Urban Development (HUD).  Organizations that provide programs and services to low or moderate income Bridgeport residents are encouraged to apply for the funds before the March 3, 2017 deadline.  Organizations that receive funds through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Emergency Shelter Grant (HESG), HOME and Housing Opportunities for People with AIDS (HOPWA) programs are eligible. Bridgeport News: Robber Shoots Self During Aprehension

8:59pm--#Bridgeport Connecticut-- Just before 9am Mike's Supermarket at 375 Capitol Avenue was robbed at gunpoint by a Hispanic male wearing a mask brandishing a small caliber handgun. The suspect fled on foot down Parrot Avenue and police gave chase. The suspect turned down Charles where he encountered a police sergeant who tackled him. The sergeant injured his hand taking him down. The suspect's gun went off during the take down shooting the suspect in the leg. The gun and money were both recovered at the scene.
