#BRIDGEPORT, CT – Mayor Joe Ganim today joined community leaders from the East End of Bridgeport and several members of the city council to take the previously declared “War on Blight” to Stratford Avenue. Together this morning, Mayor Ganim and community leaders started demolition of the building that once housed the Petteway Market and adjacent social club, plus apartments. The building was severely damaged in a 2014 fire and was since condemned. Demolition became the only option to move the lot forward for new development because the property owner carried no insurance on the building. #Bridgeport Connecticut--Bridgeport non-profit Bikeport Co-op gave away bicycles to one hundred children living in poverty this holiday season. The families of all the children earning bikes receive social services through Action for Bridgeport Community Development, Inc. Children will receive helmets with their bikes. Bikeport Co-op is a community bike workshop located in the Arcade Mall in downtown Bridgeport. During the summer, high school youth earn bikes by learning bike maintenance and team working skills. This is Bikeport’s second yearly holiday bike giveaway with ABCD. This year’s giveaway is larger than in 2015 where 75 children received for the holidays. ;
