To err is human…..

Very early Sunday morning a shooting occurred in Bridgeport just before 3am, “man shot to the head” came across the EMS scanner.  Out the door I went to bring you and the rest of the media the news.  As I mentioned in an earlier article 3am is my bed time.

I was back by 3:30am and now I had to edit the video, get photo frame grabs, upload the video and write the article.  3:30am is late even for me!  If anyone has ever edited by computer, your computer screen is not full size, it has the timeline, preview and program screen and lots of tools (see the photo).

At that hour I was very tired and did rush to get the video completed as well as the photo frame grabs.  I had to get bed and be up for 10:30am for church with the family.  In that rush I did a frame grab that showed the victim’s face.  It did not appear that way in the preview screen.  The last thing I want to do is to upset you the viewer over an image.  If I upset you  I apologize.

I did learn that a protest against DoingItLocal.com was scheduled for today by a Bridgeport activist.  Shoot the messenger I guess.  The activist wanted our radios taken away from us and our ability to report to you and the rest of the media  silenced.

Even using dual screen monitors full details can be challenging.

Police Arrest Two Men for Larceny

#Bridgeport, CT – Nov. 12, 2013 – Two men face larceny and burglary charges after an incident on Gurdon Street.

Officer Ian Schumaker responded to the area of 90 Gurdon just before 3 a.m. Sunday after a concerned citizen contacted police about a possible burglary in progress.

Police were told a Subaru and a Honda Civic pulled up to the area and that three males appeared to be walking between the Civic and the side of 90 Gurdon Street, which is an abandoned house.

When police arrived, Sgt. Vincent Ingrassia and Officer Jamie Jarrett detained one man, later identified as Erick Calderon, 26, of Bridgeport, as he walked away from the Civic. Officer Jeffrey Franco spotted a second male who was apprehended while hiding behind a garage after a foot chase. He was identified as Luis Guzman, 35, of Bridgeport.

The Civic, which was believed to be an unreported stolen car, had been partially stripped. Items from its interior were recovered on the side of the house.

The two men face charges of larceny, interfering with police and burglary.

Man Assaults Mechanic

#Bridgeport, CT – Nov. 12, 2013 – A 32-year-old man faces charges after he punched his mother’s auto mechanic in the face over his prices.

The incident happened Monday afternoon at a business in the 1500 block of Stratford Avenue. Officer Ilidio Pereira responded to the location and spoke to the victim. The victim stated that the suspect, Deron Brooks, of Bridgeport, began yelling at him about the pricing of the labor for work on his mother’s car. He also began screaming about work that was done on his own car. The victim stated he tried to defuse the situation by walking away but added that Brooks followed him and punched him in the face before fleeing.

Brooks’ mother, who was present, helped police contact her son, who agreed to turn himself in at police headquarters. He was charged with third-degree assault and breach of peace. His bond was set at $5,000.

I need a time out!

Rough start to the week.  My son Alex will be taking over the reporting for the next couple of days.  I own a couple of other sites that I will shift my attention to during this time.  Alex is still learning so be gentle on  him with the comments and his reporting.  He’s all I can afford!

Today started with me being accused of sensationalizing the news because I titled a post manhunt, even though police were looking for two males with K-9.  Then because I described them as being African Americans I was accused of being politically correct.  A month earlier I was called racist because I described a suspect as dark skinned because it was uncertain if the suspect was from the Caribbean.   Have you noticed I have stopped describing suspects?

If that wasn’t enough for one DAY I get a call from someone threatening me over a post.  From someone I THOUGHT was a friend.  I’m use to dealing with ALL these situations but NOT all in one day.

Well if you have read this far you truly care.  This is the hardest website I’ve ever run.  World wide websites are oh so much easier!   I need a time out.  If you like what we do please visit or e-mail our sponsors who make this all work.  I can’t do it without them.  But DoingItLocal.com  is much more than selling a lunch or dinner.  Its about bringing the community together in a way unlike before. Reuniting pets with their owners, giving free Small Business Shout Outs  to let you know about a neighbor who has a product or service, or just letting you know why all the firetrucks just went flying down your street.

For now I’m trading in the scanners for my earbuds.  The artist formerly know as Prince is playing– and I’m going to Party Like It’s 1999.  I’ll be back in the next day or two recharged and energized with new ideas.  I’ve been down this route before……
