On 04/18/16 at approximately 1:45am, Westport Police Officer Michael Gudzik noticed a suspicious male standing near the intersection of Compo Rd North and Cross Highway holding an umbrella (weather was clear) and speaking on his cell phone. Officer Gudzik approached the individual, later identified as Tyler Johnson. Through the investigation, Officer Gudzik determined that the suspect was in possession of items that did not belong to him. Investigation revealed that the items recovered at the scene were stolen from a vehicle parked in a driveway in close proximity to where Officer Gudzik located the suspect. While speaking with JOHNSON, additional responding Officer’s located a vehicle parked on the side on the road further north on Compo Rd North. #Westport Connecticut--The Westport Tree Board will celebrate Arbor Day with a Tree Seedling Give-Away on Friday, April 29 from 2-5 pm at the Lillian Wadsworth Arboretum located at 2 Woodside Lane. There will be a table set up near the corner of Stonybrook Road and Woodside Avenue. #Westport--Saturday Morning-- Westport Firefighters were dispatched to I 95 NB for a report of a MVA rollover. The initial dispatch was for Engine 4, Rescue 3 and the Shift Commander. Engine 4 arrived on scene just past exit 18 and found a single vehicle crash into a pole with the car on its side and the driver still inside. Engine 2 was added to the assignment for additional manpower. E4 stretched a hose line and began patient care. R3 and E2 worked to stabilizethe vehicle in place prior to removing the driver. The driver was removed from the vehicle at 7:01 AM and patient care was transferred to Westport EMS. (Westport Fire Department Press Release)

#Westport Connecticut--On Monday, March 28, 2016 the Westport Police Department welcomed one new officer to the organization and promoted another to the rank of Detective, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of Detective William Harsche. The ceremony took place in the Westport Police Department classroom, where First Selectman Jim Marpe administered the oath of office. Officer Sharon Russo was promoted to the rank of Detective. Detective Russo is an 8-year veteran of the police force, joining the department in March 2008 where she has been assigned to the patrol division. Detective Russo attended Marymount Manhattan College and has earned the Westport Police Investigator’s Award. Detective Russo finished first in the promotional testing process. Human Services Director Barbara Butler has announced that the Westport Youth Commission is seeking nominations for the annual James S. Bacharach Service to the Community Award. “All qualified high school seniors from Westport are eligible for this award,” said Butler. “This honor, given to one or more high school seniors from Westport, recognizes their significant community service contributions in our town.” Citations have been given annually since 1989 as a tribute to the late James S. Westport News: Regs On Animals on Town Properties
#Westport--Westport Parks & Recreation Director Jennifer Fava today reminded residents of regulations related to animals on Town Property. Effective April 1, animals will not be permitted at Compo, Old Mill, and Burying Hill Beaches. Animals in or out of vehicles will not be allowed on any beach property which includes all grass, sand, and parking areas, except Soundview parking lot at Compo Beach, as well as the roads within the beach area.
