American LaFrance closes its doors

Although not a local story many of our local heroes use their equipment.  The website sconfire.com is reporting that the fire equipment manufacturer American LaFrance has closed its doors  in three Pennsylvania plants – Moncks Corner, Pimlico and Ephrata.  American LaFrance filed for bankruptcy protection in 2008.   The company told its employees not to return to work next week and that they have reached out to their parent company Patriarch Partners.   Approximately 150 employees are now out of work, three days after the last fire truck was delivered.

Trumbull News: Town sweeper burns

At 10:57 this morning the NFD and Trumbull Center FD were dispatched to the report of a town street sweeper on fire in the area of Huntington Turnpike and Rocky Ridge Drive.  Rescue 300 arrived on scene first and reported a street sweeper well involved and they were stretching a line and going to work.  Engine 301, Trumbull Center Engine 102 and Quint 303 arrived a few minutes later to support the members on the intial attack lines.  Quint 303 personnel were directed to a church parking lot to attend to the occupant of the sweeper who was reporting smoke inhalation and requesting medical attention.  The patient was attended to by FD personnel until the arrival of Trumbull EMS.  The fire was knocked down and companies were released as they became available.  The sweeper appeared to be a total loss for the town.  Picture and article by Nichols Fire Department.  To see more photos log on to their website here.
