Police had their hands full with large gathering at Club Azzure on Wood and Elmwood Ave around 11:30 Thursday night.   An officer on the scene estimated of over 500 in the club and in the parking lot.  One officer was injured when he was punched in the eye and one officer got caught up in some pepper spray and had to be treated.   One woman was taken to the hospital for a bite to her leg from the police dog.   A minimum of seven arrests were made and the police prisoner transport van  was called to the scene.  The club was closed and peace restored by midnight.   All officers were accounted for at special roll call taken at 12:18am.  Remaining patrons told me the large gathering was due to college student’s first week back to school.  The crowd consisted mainly of white males in the early 20s.  Taxi cabs had a flurry of business transporting the students back to campuses.

From the sound of the scanner calls the scene did not sound safe and I did not want bring my camera in a situation that could have cited further problems for police.  I arrived after most of the mayhem had been cleared.
