(Bridgeport, CT – July 23. 2013) – A city man suffered a severe laceration to his head Sunday after being struck with a bottle.

Police were dispatched to the Pollo Emporium Café and Pizzeria at 3:12 a.m. on Sunday on a report of an assault and found the victim outside with three witnesses. Witnesses said the suspect was still inside the business.

Officers Daniel Paz and Christopher Smith found the front and side doors locked and knocked but got no answer. The music and lights inside, however, suddenly were turned off.

Paz then observed three people in the front room and instructed one of them to open the door.

Once police got inside, they found approximately 35 in the rear barroom area. Witnesses identified Israel Medina,  21, as the assailant, and he was charged with second degree assault.

The bar manager, identified as Hugo Montesinos, 46, was given citation for violating state liquor laws and for interfering with police.
