#Bridgeport, CT – Dec. 16, 2013 – Detectives are investigating an early morning homicide in which a 21-year-old man was fatally shot.  It was the 12th homicide in the City this year.

At approximately 2 a.m., patrol officers responded to the area of Poplar Street and Maplewood Avenue on a report of a motor vehicle accident.  Officers located a silver Nissan Pathfinder on Poplar, just south of Maplewood. The vehicle had crossed the centerline of the street, striking a parked truck head on. Located inside of the vehicle was DeWayne Gardner, of Bridgeport. Upon further investigation it was determined that Gardner had been shot in the torso.

Gardner was transported from the scene to St. Vincent’ Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. At this point, police believe Gardner was wounded in the area of 176-178 Poplar and traveled a short distance before striking the parked vehicle.Detectives are following leads but at this time no motive or suspects have been identified.
