Westport News: 2 New Police Officers

CT--On Tuesday, September 30, 2014 the Westport Police Department swore in two new police officers. The ceremony took place in the classroom at police headquarters at 2:45 P.M. The hiring of both officers fills vacancies created by the two retirements since June 2014 and brings the department to full strength. The following individuals were sworn in as Westport Police Officers: Ruta Pratt, age 39, is a 1995 graduate of Naugatuck Valley Community College with a degree in Criminal Justice. Prior to her hiring by the Westport Police Department, Ms. Pratt was a police officer with the Waterbury Police Department since October 2002, most recently at the rank of Detective. Fairfield News: Appraisers, Not Scam

12:19pm--#Fairfield CT--A homeowner on Morehouse Lane called the fire chief's office to inquire if a  fire marshal was investigating on their street, a woman in uniform was in the homeowner's yard taking measurements .  The chief's office said no and called police to investigate.  I called Lieutenant Jim Perez of the Fairfield Police Department for follow up.  Perez said scammers often will show up in fake uniforms to falsely gain the authority  confidence of homeowners. As Perez and I were talking on the phone it was discovered that the company called Vision Appraisal was legitimately in the area appraising homes. Vision Appraisal is used by the town of Fairfield to appraise properties in town.  "The homeowner did the right thing"…

Bridgeport News: Fire On Grandview Avenue

3:10am--#Bridgeport CT--Police were first on the scene of a structure fire at 250 Grandview Avenue and rescued the lone occupant of the home to safety.  The second floor left side was heavily engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on scene.  Firefighters had the bulk of the fire knocked down in the short 12 minute ride I had to the scene.  By 4am the firefighters were rolling up their hoses.  There were no injuries to the homeowner or firefighters.
