Our city’s fifth homicide of the year occurred yesterday at just after 3 p.m. The victim, 57-year-old Jose Salgado and his wife were working in their store, Sapiao’s Grocery at 351 Lexington Ave, when two men came in to rob them, both armed with handguns. They demanded the money and when Jose went to hand the money over, one of the suspects shot him. Jose was taken to St Vincent’s Medical Center but died at 3:46 p.m.

The suspects approached the store on foot from Linen Ave. Video evidence shows them walking east on Linen Ave toward the store. One minute later, they are seen running west on Linen Ave, back in the direction they had come from. According to several witnesses, they entered a bright green 4-door vehicle and fled west on Linen Ave. the vehicle is believed to be a kiwi-colored Ford Focus. They were last seen traveling north on James St. According to witnesses, a third person was in the vehicle and waited in the passenger’s seat.
The first suspect is described as a black male, about 5’9”, medium build, in his 30’s. He was the driver. His face was partially covered by a mask. The second suspect is a white or Hispanic male, 5’6” or 5’7”, also in his 30’s. He had long hair. He did not wear a mask.
