#Bridgeport CT This morning, the Bridgeport Police Marine Unit recovered a body of a male off of the shore of Bridgeport Harbor. The identification of the man is not being released at this time.

At 11:20 a.m., a police officer in Seaside Park reported to the dispatch center that he saw what appeared to be a body in the water. According to Lt. Fitzgerald, the head of the police Marine Unit, a police boat responded, confirmed and recovered the body.

“We were out on our police boat on routine patrol, and we heard some Coast Guard chatter of the possibility of a body in the water somewhere between Bridgeport, Connecticut and Port Jackson, New York,” said Fitzgerald. “ We were beginning to get in contact with the Coast Guard to initiate a search for that possible missing person when our call came in over a Bridgeport Police 911 of a possible body in the water off of Seaside Park. So we responded to the scene and located a male victim in the water.”

Patrol officers and detectives responded to the location to start an investigation, and detectives are following up on information about a possible missing passenger from the Port Jefferson Ferry. The body was transported to the Officer of the Chief Medical Examiner, where the cause and manner of death will be determined. While the investigation is ongoing, police at this time do not suspect foul play.
