On September 9, 2015 at 6:43 a.m., firefighters responded to a call regarding smoke in the area of Berkshire Ave. and Pembroke St.  At the scene, firefighters found a multi-family home at 511 Berkshire Ave.

The rear of the building had heavy fire on all three floors. Four civilians exited the building shortly after firefighters arrived. Firefighters then performed a search of the building and found no one inside. Firefighters fought the fire for a time until crews had to be pulled out for an exterior operation.  Once the fire was under control, firefighters returned to the inside of the building to extinguish the remaining fire. More than 30 firefighters were dispatched to tackle the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries of civilians or firefighters have been reported. 12 adults and 9 children were displaced because of the fire. American Red Cross is responding to help those displaced.
