#Bridgeport, Conn. (September 22, 2015) The Bridgeport Police Department arrested a wanted suspect for drug dealing.  On September 19 at around 4:30 p.m., a Bridgeport police officer was traveling south on Pequonnock St. in a marked Jose OrtizBridgeport Police squad car and recognized a wanted suspect riding a bicycle in the same direction.  The police officer recognized the suspect, Jose Ortiz (07/08/91), from a recent arrest and was aware Ortiz currently had multiple warrants out for his arrest.  While following Ortiz, the police officer was spotted and accelerated away from the police vehicle.   Ortiz turned into the parking lot of “Save A Lot” on Pequonnock St. then jumped off his bicycle and began to flee on foot.  The police officer exited his vehicle and pursued Ortiz on foot through the parking lot and over a chain link fence.

A supporting police officer traveling by foot to assist in the pursuit found Ortiz curled in a fetal position between “Lovely Nails” (532 Pequonnock St.) and a red six-foot stockade fence that surrounded a separate trash dumpster.  Ortiz was breathing heavily and bleeding from both hands.   The police officer identified himself and told Ortiz not to move.  Ortiz resisted arrest as two other officers arrived to assist. Following several attempts to get away the police officers were able to take Ortiz into custody with the use of a Taser.  Ortiz was transported by ambulance to St. Vincent’s Hospital for minor injuries.

Ortiz was charged with interfering with an officer, possession of narcotics, and possession of narcotics with intent to sell. Bond was set at $50,000.  Ortiz also had warrants out for failure to appear, trespassing, possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, violating conditions of release, unlawful restraint, assault, and threatening for a total bond of $170,000.
