(Westport CT) On Thursday June 23, 2016 at approximately 3:21am, Westport Police K-9 Officer James Loomer was patrolling residential neighborhoods in the Northwest sector of Westport as there had been a recent increase in overnight car burglaries and stolen vehicles in that area. K-9 Officer Loomer observed a black BMW that was stolen from the night before. He attempted to stop the vehicle, but it drove out of the area at a high rate of speed. A short time later, Officer David Perez located the same stolen vehicle traveling on Post Road West in the area of Lincoln Street. Westport Police units attempted to stop the vehicle as it traveled on Saugatuck Avenue, but it again fled and headed towards I- 95. Westport Police pursued the vehicle onto I-95 northbound. The pursuit continued until the suspect vehicle exited I-95 at exit 21 in Fairfield. The vehicle then crashed into a telephone pole at the bottom of the exit ramp. Pursuing Westport Police Officers quickly apprehended two individuals who were attempting to flee on foot. Westport Police K-9 “Koda” apprehended a third suspect who was running from the scene. The operator of the vehicle fled the scene and is being sought. Two of the arrested parties were treated and released for minor injuries from Norwalk Hospital.

The following suspects were arrested:

 

Tyler Carey who actually gave police the name  “Johnson”.  Carey misled officers with his identity during the arrest and booking process.  His fingerprints were sent to a national database which confirmed his true identity of Tyler Carey, DOB 06/18/98, 18 years old, Bridgeport CT.  He is additionally charged with Criminal Impersonation.  He will be transferred to the Wilton Police Department who holds a warrant for his arrest for Larceny 1st degree.

Third Suspect is a Juvenile and no information is available.

All three were charged with Larceny 1 st , Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 1 st , and Interfering with a Police Officer. The two adults were held on $25,000.00 bond. The juvenile was released on a Juvenile Summons and transferred to Norwalk PD who held an Order to Detain on previous juvenile charges.
