Connecticut Characters A Good Read!

Connecticut was one of two states not to ratify Prohibition.  “A secluded, wooded area of Bridgeport developed into a noted have and to this day retains the name “Whiskey Hill” (north end).  Its remote still were renowned for their quality, volume, and egalitarian sales practices.  All customers, cops included were welcome.  But while cops were among the customers, there were appearances to maintain”.

Governor Signs Small Business Hotline In Service

#Hartford CT–Gov. Dannel P. Malloy signed a bill (H.B. 5584) into law establishing a small business hotline to serve as a one-stop-shop for interactions between entrepreneurs and the state.

In response to today’s bill signing, Brett Broesder, co-founder and vice president of Campaign for Tomorrow’s Jobs

, noted that, on average, small business owners spend 200 hours a year dealing with government rules and regulations, according to a Babson College study

. The small business hotline will help cut down on that time by serving as a one-stop-shop for find answers to questions surrounding government red tape.

“This small business hotline, serving as a one-stop-shop, will save entrepreneurs both time and money,” said Broesder. “When small businesses succeed, it’s not just our economy that gets stronger; it’s our families and communities. It’s a win-win for Connecticut.”

The new law requires the Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) commissioner to establish and operate a hotline that provides individualized information and guidance to entrepreneurs and small business owners across the state on how to start and develop a business, identify networking resources, and access technical and financial assistance from state and quasi-public agencies. The commissioner may establish, manage, and staff the hotline in collaboration with a nonprofit organization, according to Connecticut’s Office of Legislative Research

Also, the DECD commissioner must submit a report on the hotline’s operation to the Commerce Committee by January 1, 2019. The report must describe the hotline’s services and how it is advertised, summarize the most common types of assistance entrepreneurs and small businesses request, and provide statistics on the hotline’s call volume.

“Thanks to Gov. Malloy for signing this bill into law,” said Broesder. “And, thanks to the General Assembly – especially Commerce Committee Co-Chairs State Representative Caroline Simmons , State Senator Joan Hartley , State Senator Scott Frantz  and Ranking Member State Representative David Yaccarino – for leading the charge on this pro-business measure.”

The new law will go into effect on October 1, 2017.

Westport News: Man Charged For Larceny/ID Theft Against His Employer

In July of 2016, Westport Officer James Sullivan took a complaint of a Larceny. The victim of this incident reported that he had an employee that had been working for him since 2014 and as of approximately January of 2016 has been embezzling money from the company. That employee is Donald Luciano, 45 of Bridgeport and he reportedly stole approximately $14,000.00. The victim stated that Luciano would be given the victim’s personal credit card to pay for things he needed to complete his job requirements, such as mailing items at the post office or buying things needed for the business. Sometime around January of 2016, Luciano began spending more money than was needed for the business. Officer Sullivan was able to uncover that Luciano would use the credit card at restaurants and for gift cards. Luciano would also pay for round trip flights to Florida. It was also learned that Luciano falsified checks that were supposed to be delivered to the victim’s clients. Luciano would forge the client’s name on the checks and take the money for himself.

 

Officer Sullivan submitted an arrest warrant to Norwalk Court for the arrest of Donald Luciano. On 07/06/17, Luciano turned himself in for the active warrant. He was processed and charged with Identity Theft 1 st degree and Larceny 2 nd degree. He was held on a $50,000 bond and has a court date in Norwalk on 07/13/17.

Stratford News: Ansonia Man Hits Porch

3AMish–#Stratford CT–Joseph Segui age 23 of Ansonia was arrested for Driving Under the Influence and Failure to Drive Right after he crashed his car into a residence at 1734 Broadbridge Avenue. The incident occurred shortly after 3am on July 9 th . There were no injuries reported. The front porch of the residence was damaged as a result of the crash as was a vehicle parked in the driveway of the residence.

Segui was able to post bond and he is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on 07-18- 2017.
