Police UPDATE: On July 9, 2020 at approximately 9:10pm Bridgeport Patrol Officers and Bridgeport Firefighters responded to the scene of a serious crash at the intersection of State Street and Park Avenue.

Shortly after 9:00pm this evening, the operator of a yellow 2005 Suzuki DRZ400 motorcycle was traveling eastbound on State Street at a high rate of speed. As the motorcyclist approached the intersection of State Street and Park Avenue a female pedestrian, located just west of the intersection, was crossing State Street on foot.

The motorcycle struck the female pedestrian causing her to be sent into the westernmost portion of the intersection along with the motorcycle operator; who was ejected during the crash. The unmanned Suzuki motorcycle continued through the intersection and struck a utility pole at the northeast corner. The motorcycle then came to a stop on State Street; just east of the intersection.

The pedestrian is an elderly woman from Bridgeport CT. She was transported to Bridgeport Hospital and later died from her injuries. The operator of the Suzuki motorcycle is a 34-year-old man from Bridgeport CT. He was also transported to Bridgeport Hospital and is being treated for serious injuries.

The Bridgeport Police Accident Reconstruction Team has responded to conduct further investigation. They are being assisted by the Southern Fairfield County Traffic Unit.

The identification of the deceased is being held until notifications are made to family and next of kin.

The scene at State Street and Park Avenue is still active at 12:30am on July 10, 2020.

2020-07-09@9:11pm–#Bridgeport CT– Two people on a motorcycle sustained serious head trauma when allegedly lost control of the motorcycle at Park Avenue and State Street.  There was no other vehicle involved.  The intersection is closed for the investigation.
