BRIDGEPORT, CT – The Bridgeport Health Department is continuing its longtime East Side Farmers Market this summer at its new location in Washington Park, 511 E. Washington Avenue.
For more than 18 years, the East Side Farmers Market has helped provide Bridgeport residents, particularly those on the East Side, with access to fresh, affordable fruits and vegetables and other healthy food options.
The market is open every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. through October 14 and features fresh produce, community resources, health programs, educational opportunities, and other activities.
This week’s lineup includes a cooking demonstration with Chef Deja from Khemis Vegan Cuisine from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The Bridgeport Farmers Market Collaborative will also offer SNAP Matching, while registration will be available for the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program.
Other participating organizations and vendors include Recovery Network of Programs, WIC, Smart Energy Living, and Smith Acres LLC.
The market accepts cash, credit, and debit. Residents are also encouraged to ask about $5 Bridgeport Bucks, SNAP Matching, and Farmers Market Nutrition Program matching opportunities.
Senior vouchers are available for registration on market days. Those interested in registering should bring identification and proof of income.
The Bridgeport Health Department also recognized Health Educator Janay Ayala for her work organizing and supporting the East Side Farmers Market and connecting residents with healthy food, education, resources, and community programs.
The East Side Farmers Market is held Wednesdays through October 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Washington Park, 511 E. Washington Avenue in Bridgeport.
