A four-year-old girl was taken to Bridgeport Hospital in critical condition with serious injuries on Wednesday night after she was struck on Hanover Street by a Bridgeport Police car responding to a call.
The crash occurred at approximately 9:36 p.m. The officer driving the car was on the way to a report of a mob attacking a female at nearby Went Field Park on the West Side. By the time other officers arrived at the park, the crowd had dispersed. The alleged victim of the reported attack was not located.
The four-year-old victim of the crash was transported by ambulance to the hospital. She was most recently listed in critical, but stable, condition. She lives with her family on Hanover Street.
The Bridgeport Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team was called to scene of the crash. The regional Southern Fairfield County Traffic Unit also responded to conduct an independent investigation.
Bridgeport Police Chief Roderick Porter visited the four-year-old at Bridgeport Hospital.
“I am praying for the child’s full recovery,” said Chief Porter. “The department’s thoughts and prayers are with her and her family. There will be a fully transparent, independent investigation.”
