The City of Bridgeport paid homage to its own aviation pioneer Gustave Whitehead when it unveils the “First in Flight” sculpture and fountain at the intersection of State Street, Fairfield Avenue and Commerce Drive Tuesday.  State and local dignitaries, descendants of both Gustave Whitehead and one of the witnesses to Whitehead’s early flights will be in attendance at the event. The sculpture of Whitehead’s plane was crafted by noted artist and sculptor Ron Cavalier. The fountain was designed by Theodore L. Grabarz, AIA, ASLA.
