Bridgeport News: Child Hit By Car
9:40pm--#Bridgeport CT-- A child was struck by a car in the fifty block of Maplewood Avenue (near Pequannock Street). The child has non-life threatening injuries.
#Bridgeport CT--Mayor Ganim, along with city officials declared the remediation of what was known as Mount Trashmore to be completed. In the early 1990's under Ganim's first stint as mayor, he and at the time State Representative Ernie Newton rallied to put a stop of the illegal dump located at Central Avenue at Trowel Street. Dubbed Mount Trashmore, the 35-foot-high, 30,000-ton pile of construction debris was illegally dumped. The debris was removed in the early 90's but the dirty, contaminated soiled remained. In 2017 contractors were sought the environmental clean-up the soil which was completed today. There has been talk of senior housing on the two and a half acre lot but nothing has been made official at this time.
Bridgeport News: City Officials Ready If OD Mass Casualty’s Happens
#Bridgeport CT-- Mayor Ganim, Director of Emergency Management Scott Appleby and Fire Chief Thode said they are ready if an overdose mass casualty happened in Bridgeport like it did in New Haven last week. Over 100 people required medical treatment after the K-2 synthetic marijuana at the New Haven Green. Chief Thode said city firefighters responded to over 10,000 medical calls and said: “all of our trucks are equipped with defibrillators and Narcan” (which counteracts opioid overdoses). Bridgeport News: Jeep Hits Hydrant
11:11pm--#Bridgeport CT-- A jeep hit a hydrant in the 400 block of Westfield Avenue. It must have snapped at the base a few feet below. The firefighters are attempting to shut the water off feeding the hydrant from the street. In our area, we have what is known as "dry hydrants". That is after firefighters attach their hoses to a hydrant they have to turn the water on with a wrench on the hydrant that allows the flow of water. Westport Domestic Violence Task Force Concludes Successful Supply Drive
#Westport, CT - From July 16 th through August 16 th , the Westport Domestic Violence Task Force (WDVTF) collected supplies for the two Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC) safe houses that serve residents in our area. The WDVTF sought donations of new leggings and t- shirts, bed linens, backpacks and school supplies, and gently used luggage. Collection bins were located in the lobbies of the Westport Police, Fire and Human Services Departments as well as the Westport Weston YMCA and Unitarian Church. “The generosity of our community never ceases to amaze us.
