His interest in news spread to become the communities breaking news leader in Connecticut’s Fairfield County. Bridgeport Police Department Arrests Homicide Suspect Following Vehicle Pursuit

Here is the press release on the story we told you as it happened: #Bridgeport, Conn. (September 17, 2015) – Yesterday evening the Bridgeport Police Department arrested a suspect in an open Bridgeport homicide case after a routine traffic stop turned into a motor vehicle pursuit. Cewell Sharpe (12/17/82) of Bridgeport is a possible suspect in an open homicide case. In connection with the motor vehicle pursuit, Sharpe was charged with operating with a suspended license, reckless driving, engaging in pursuit, failure to obey a stop sign, and violating conditions of a release.  In addition, Sharpe was out on bond for two arrests that occurred on May 7, 2015 when he was charged with larceny, interfering with police, possession of narcotics, and…

Bridgeport News: State Police Pursuit (Wednesday)

On Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at approximately 1:00 p.m., a Trooper from Troop G – Bridgeport was conducting speed enforcement on I-95 South in Bridgeport when he observed a red Mercury Sable traveling at a high rate of speed near Exit 29. When the Trooper signaled the vehicle to stop, the Mercury accelerated, engaging the Trooper in pursuit. The suspect vehicle entered Route 25 Northbound and exited at Exit 2 and attempted to drive over a curb on Milne Street where it came to a stop due to a flat tire.  The operator fled on foot and was pursed over fences and through backyards in the area of Vine Street in Bridgeport. Governor Boasts Drop In Unemployment

Office of the Governor press release:  #HARTFORD, CT – Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman today released the following statements in response to the Connecticut Department of Labor’s “Labor Situation” report for August 2015, which showed several thousand jobs created last month.   The monthly report indicates that:   Connecticut saw a net increase of 3,200 new jobs during the month.  Though numbers may face adjustment next month,this represents the best year-over-year August job growth in the last ten years.  The 2015 July-August jobs period, seasonally adjusted, has proven to deliver the second most movement in the last decade.   The unemployment rate in the state dropped one-tenth of a percent to 5.3% (the national rate is…

Westport News: Veteran Tax Exemptions

  The Assessor’s Office reminds all veterans (or widows/widowers of veterans) who have served during an active period of war for at least 90 days and have received an honorable discharge, to file their DD-214 in the Town Clerk’s Office prior to Oct. 1, 2015. The exemption is $6,000 off an assessment and will be reflected in the July 2016 tax bill. Veterans who have already filed and are receiving an exemption do not need to re-file. The Town of Westport also offers a local option for an  additional $20,000 off an assessment. Note that this is an income qualifying program. Maximum income is $59,600 for a single veteran and $67,200 for a married veteran. Applications for this program are accepted prior to Oct. 1, 2015. A…
