Class of 2012 Warde High School

The sweltering temperatures and high humidity didn’t stop Fairfield Warde’s 327 students from graduating. The ceremony was moved along with shortened speeches and no introductions. Cooling areas and water was at the ready and many took advantage of them. Smiles among the students and family were plentiful and the emotions ran high. Congratulations Class of 2012!

Major Factory Fire in Bridgeport

Around 7pm the first call went out for a fire at the abandoned factories at Hancock and Railroad Avenue.   The site has seen its share of fires over the winter but this time it affected three of the buildings.  Several firefighters were overcome with heat exhaustion and by the acidic smoke.  Two firefighters have been hospitalized due to heat exhaustion.  Trains passing were slowed to a crawl while traveling through the area.  The mayor’s office has been recommending residents to keep their windows closed to keep smoke from entering their homes. Shelton, Easton, Fairfield and Trumbull are few of the fire companies that provided mutual aid in fighting this fire.

Proof of Bridgeport Hospital Lockdown Sunday

Yesterday we reported as it was happening that Bridgeport Hospital was in a lockdown after two men displayed weapons in the emergency room.  I first heard it on the Bridgeport Police radio but held back making it public just in case it was a false report or over reaction.  At 7:30pm American Medical Response told all ambulance to avoid Bridgeport Hospital until further notice.  At 7:33 Fairfield Police made a announcement to all their patrol officers and that is when we went public with the information.  Many broadcasters said Bridgeport Hospital said they were not on lockdown.  On the 5:30pm news on WTNH they said Bridgeport Hospital said no person ever displayed a gun at the hospital.  We then ask, why was AMR told to avoid the area, Bridgeport Police not only report a lockdown but also warn other police departments?

An dispute between boyfriend and ex-boyfriend got dangerous when the boyfriend shot at the ex-boyfriend early Monday afternoon.  Detective Keith Bryant told me that threats were made on Sunday that they were going to fight, but that never happened.  The ex-boyfriend showed up today to help the girlfriend’s family take out a pool in the backyard.  The boyfriend showed up and began arguing when he took a shot at the ex.  One shell casing was found in front of the home.  The boyfriend fled in a gray Volkswagen Jetta but was stopped a short time later by police.  The gun was found in the car and the man was taken into custody.
