DoingItLocal is run by Steve Krauchick. Steve has always had interest with breaking news even as an early teen, opting to listen to the Watergate hearings instead of top 40 on the radio. His interest in news spread to become the communities breaking news leader in Connecticut’s Fairfield County. He strongly believes that the public has right to know what is happening in their backyard and that government needs to be transparent. Steve also likes promoting local businesses.

Beardsley Zoo’s 90th Birthday Party

Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo  marked its 90th birthday with its wildest party ever on May 19, 2012.  WICC's Jim Buchanan was host and emcee along with a visit from Senator Richard Blumenthal and special proclamation from the U.S. Senate.  Zoo director Gregg Danchell gave us an interesting brief history on how the zoo came into existence.  Bakeries from across the state competed in many categories of the best cake for the birthday celebration.  The weather cooperated and made for a fantastic day for the celebration.  The fun continues with $5 entry fee to Bridgeport residences on Sunday.  Beardsley Zoo Connecticut's only zoo in the state.

McFire at North Avenue McDonald’s

Shortly after 9:30pm Saturday night the fire department received a call of a kitchen fire at the 215 North Avenue McDonald's.  Assistant Fire Chief Ismael Pomales told us the fire was confined to a frialator.  The halon fire suppressant immediately was trigger but it was not enough to put out the fire.  The fire did extend into the ventilation system by then firefighters were on scene and put out the rest of the fire.

Arrest Made In 3 Year- Old Press Conference-Bridgeport CT

Bridgeport--Police have arrested one man in connection with the shooting last month that struck and wounded a 3 year old child last month. Anthony "Wompy" Small, 20, who was shot in the hand during the shooting, was arrested by members of the U.S. Marshal Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force at a home in Waterbury. He is being held by a $250,000 bond. Chief of Police Joseph Gaudette said in a press conference Thursday evening "The fact that this involved an innocent 3-year-old girl in a broad daylight shooting in a residential neighborhood where people need to be able to walk safely and freely about that really hit home for us." Red Cross Awards in Fairfield

At their regular Board of Selectmen’s meeting on Wednesday the Fairfield Board of Selectmen recognized the following individuals who recently received The American Red Cross’ 2012 Community Heroes of Lower Fairfield County Award: Fairfield Police Officer Scott M. Sudora and Bob Trez who won the Law Enforcement/Good Samaritan Adult Award. The Red Cross said that “Bob Trez, owner of the Penfield Service Center on the Post Road in Fairfield, saw his friend collapse in a chair, called 911 and administered CPR. Officer Sudora, was on patrol in a neighboring area, but knowing he was closer to the location than the area patrol car, he volunteered to take the call, knowing as Fairfield Police Chief Gary MacNamara said in his nomination,…

Pedestrian Struck At Villa Ave Fairfield

Around 2:15 Wednesday afternoon a pedestrian was struck in the crosswalk at the intersection of Tunxis Hill and Villa Avenue. A firetruck was stopped at a red light when the accident occurred and called the accident in to dispatch. The pedestrian was transported to a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Police are investigating.
