DoingItLocal is run by Steve Krauchick. Steve has always had interest with breaking news even as an early teen, opting to listen to the Watergate hearings instead of top 40 on the radio. His interest in news spread to become the communities breaking news leader in Connecticut’s Fairfield County. He strongly believes that the public has right to know what is happening in their backyard and that government needs to be transparent. Steve also likes promoting local businesses.

Bike Struck

A bicyclist was struck at the intersection of Iranistan Ave and State Street in Bridgeport. According to one on scene witness, the bicyclist pulled out in front of the car and was the cause, but there is nothing confirmed. The driver of the motor vehicle did appear to be cooperating with the police, and the bicyclist was cared for for his injuries.

Shooting in Bridgeport

First responders are on scene to a reported shooting that occurred around the area of 500 Laurel Ave and 100 Grove Street in Bridgeport. There is at least one victim who was shot possibly in the hip according to initial unconfirmed radio reports. This is an actively developing story, we will pass along any updates as soon as we get them. UPDATE: The Bridgeport Police Department is actively investigating a shooting on the West Side of the city that happened around 4:00 p.m. today and left several persons injured. Bridgeport Schools Holding Open Teacher Interviews

Bridgeport Public Schools is inviting certified teachers, aspiring educators and candidates currently working toward certification to attend open interviews at Bridgeport City Hall. The district is particularly seeking elementary, special education, math, science, art and music teachers. A limited number of interviews will also be available for paraprofessional candidates. Human Resources recruiter and retired district administrator Sharon Pivirotto said school principals will be available to meet directly with applicants and discuss opportunities within the district. Bridgeport Public Schools also offers a mentor program that pairs new teachers with experienced educators during their first years. 18-Year-Old Killed in Catherine Street Shooting

Bridgeport police are investigating the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Leon Richardson, who was found inside a Honda on Catherine Street Monday evening. Officers responded around 6:45 p.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire and a man bleeding inside a vehicle. Richardson was found in the driver’s seat with a head wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. This is Bridgeport's 5th homicide of 2026 An anonymous witness told DoingItLocal that a red sedan was traveling on Catherine Street toward Harral Avenue when shots were fired. The witness said the sedan then fled toward Harral Avenue in the direction of the highway. Fire Displaces Three

Bridgeport firefighters quickly extinguished a third-floor bathroom fire at 146 George Street around 3:45 p.m. Assistant Fire Chief Andrew Ellis said Bridgeport police officers were already evacuating residents when firefighters arrived and successfully got everyone out safely.The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes and did not spread beyond the bathroom. No injuries were reported, but three adults were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The Bridgeport Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.
