Bridgeport News: Parking Enforcement Officer allegedly Assaulted

1:40pm--#Bridgeport Connecticut-- A driver of a ticketed SUV allegedly struck a Bridgeport Police Parking Enforcement Officer this afternoon on Wheeler Avenue at the intersection of Madison Avenue (next to Micalizzi's Italian Ice (I can't wait for them to open!)).  The driver of the vehicle was upset at receiving a ticket and allegedly struck the officer in the chest and then in the arm knocking his ticket machine to the ground.  The SUV was making it difficult for trucks to pull onto Wheeler Avenue being over two feet fromo the curb.  The SUV only ticketed for parking too  close to the curb and crosswalk.  The SUV was not ticketed for parking over two feet from the curb.  The parking enforcement officer was…

Bridgeport Red Ink Bad News For Unions and Apointees

Bridgeport – Mayor Joe Ganim today announced that his administration will be instituting unpaid furloughs for appointed staff during the current fiscal year, and will be offering an early retirement incentive program to all eligible city employees.  These combined efforts are designed to reduce personnel costs at a time when the Ganim administration is struggling  to close the FY 2016 budget deficit of $20 Million.  In addition to these measures, Mayor Ganim will also be seeking concessions to achieve savings from the municipal government’s organized labor unions representing thousands of city employees. “The fiscal reality my administration inherited has forced our city government to make some very difficult choices,” said Mayor Ganim.  “The bottom line is we need to achieve…
